Black/Death Metal

Over the last few years, Russia may have spawned quite a number of class extreme metal acts such as Pyre and slamming brutal death metal band Aborted Fetus. Yet this land is not the first thing on one’s mind when the metal genre is brought up. Coupled with the lack of exposure to extreme metal for a couple of months now, Grey Heaven Fall managed to be one such act that has managed to enchant me with their sophomore full length, Black Wisdom.

Black Metal

It has been three years since Spanish black metal band Frozen Dawn last dropped their debut album, and this year sees the band return with their latest release under Xtreem Music, Those of the Cursed Light. With their debut album gaining largely positive reviews, along with my curiosity of Spanish black metal (being already well-acquainted with death metal from the region with Dave Rotten and his various projects), it curious to see what their black metal scene have to offer. Furthermore, with the climate of Frozen Dawn‘s Madrid origins, it leaves one to wonder what their interpretation of winterland in their music would end up sounding like.

And the result is quite good actually, with the band displaying their intimate knowledge of the genre. With the furious trem-picking of guitarist Lord Morgoth and Grinder right from the start of the album, one is quickly thrown into the vast winter lands that bands such as Mayhem and Darkthrone have conjured in their classics like De Mysteriis and Transilvanian Hunger. The chilling vocals of Grinder also helps in bringing about the harshness that one would expect from such a gruelling soundscape and atmosphere that is created by the band. That slight pagan/folkish sound that the band includes at times on the album even brings about some comparison to bands like Taake, with the slight black and roll moments on Blackened March also bringing in some slight Satyricon sounds.

At the same time, the sound of Frozen Dawn also nods towards the melodic style of Swedish bands, especially WatainDissection and Necrophobic. For instance, the title track of the album could have easily fit into later Watain works with the epic soundscape that is created, especially in the measured drumming of Arjan, who prevents himself from being overly aggressive and spoiling the mood that the band has created.

But the band’s influences do not simply end there, as they attempt to include some respite amidst the hostility with the inclusion of milder moments, most evident on the slower tracks on the album such as Eternal Frost, where the lead guitars of Lord Morgoth bring in some warmth to balance off the coldness that the band has been summoning thus far.

VOIVOD: ‘Kluskap O’Kom’ Video Released

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

“Kluskap O’Kom”, the new video from Canadian progressive metal pioneers VOIVOD, can be seen at this location. The clip, which originally premiered at Philip H. Anselmo‘s Housecore Horror Film Festival in October in Austin, Texas, was directed by Syl Disjonk, who is best known for his short horror film “Ethereal Chrysalis”. The director of photography was JP Bernier (DESPISED ICON).

Asked about the meaning of “Kluskap O’Kom”VOIVOD vocalist Denis “Snake ” Bélanger said: “Sometimes described as a giant coming out of the woods, sometimes a monster in a lake or sometimes a powerful being that came from the sky, Kluskap is the name for this strange character and O’Kom is the place where he lives.

“Kluskap is inspired by a legend from a Canadian native tribe called the Micmacs. He once came to earth to kill all the Dinosaurs in order to help the humans to take over the planet.
“One day Kluskap will come back with another mission to the humans.

“There are many similarities between the Kluskap story and other legends from tribes all around the globe; stories told of encounters with beings from other worlds. This one is very unique, I thought.

“So here it is; Hear the thunder, it is me, coming back!!!! ‘KlusKap O’Kom’!”

VOIVOD also released a seven-inch single for the song, featuring artwork from the band’s drummer, Michael “Away” Langevin, and limited to 1000 copies worldwide. The b-side features a live version of “Kluskap O’Kom” recorded in Berlin on the band’s last European headlining tour. The single comes in black, grey and black and white swirl colored vinyl and can be purchased here.

In related news, VOIVOD recently partnered with a local Montreal brewery to produce a limited batch of “Kluskap O’Kom” beer. Guitarist Dan “Chewy” Mongrain explains: “Frederic Cormier, the brewer and owner of Hopfenstark Micro-Brewery, and I had this Idea for a couple years of crafting a VOIVOD beer. This year, with the new album, ‘Target Earth’, and our 30th anniversary, the timing was perfect to celebrate and brew! So I asked the guys if they were into it and everybody thought it was a great idea! We sampled different types of ale, lager, stout, IPA, season, wheat etc to come up with the type of beer we wanted to do. We also talked about the concept and decided to associate the VOIVOD beer not only with the band’s name but with a song from the latest opus. We chose Kluskap O’Kom, which is inspired by American-Indian legends and modern reality.

“We wanted the beer to have a taste from the woods, the terroir, so to speak. So Frederic had this idea of crafting the beer with Mugwort and Balsam Fir, which we ended up picking up in the woods.

“The beer is made with fresh ingredients; it’s easy to drink yet with complex, well-balanced flavors.

“We just invited friends and fans to the release party in Montreal at Station Ho.st (bar owned by the brewer) and it was a complete success! Lots of people celebrating the 30th anniversary of VOIVOD, making toasts with a Kluskap O’Kom beer, listening to some VOIVOD, watching a two-hour [documentary on the] making of the beer, plus we had a surprise when our director friend showed up with a DVD to play the promo video of ‘Kluskap O’Kom’!! It was a perfect magical evening… I ended up going to bed at 6 a.m… smiling. How could life be better than that?”

WATAIN: ‘Outlaw’ Video Released

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

“Outlaw”, the new video from Swedish black metallers WATAIN, can be seen at this location. The clip was produced by WATAIN and Johan Bååth, who previously helmed the band’s “Opus Diaboli” DVD in 2012.

Comments WATAIN: “The ‘Outlaw’ video is a knife stab in the face of today’s clean and witty metal scene and yet another step for us to bring back something real and extreme into this limping music movement.”

A short interview with WATAIN vocalist/bassist Erik Danielsson about the ideas and the inspiration behind the video is available on the band’s web site, www.templeofwatain.com.

“Outlaw” is taken from WATAIN‘s fifth full-length, “The Wild Hunt”, which sold around 2,700 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD was released on August 19 in Europe and August 20 in USA via the band’s own label His Master’s Noise through Century Media Records.

Produced once again by Tore Stjerna at his Necromorbus studio in Alvik, Sweden, “The Wild Hunt” is a sonic and lyrical tour-de-force that explores WATAIN‘s roots, such as BATHORY and DISSECTION, while also remaining truly unique. Having lost none of their integrity, WATAIN continues to push the boundaries of the scene with their fifth full-length, refusing to compromise their sound and vision. Amid the tracks teeming with the band’s classic sound, “The Wild Hunt” also features clean vocals (a first for the trio!) which, as Erik Danielsson puts it, “is just us being brutally personal and honest. It shows another important facet of the WATAIN world.”

Executed in oil and mixed materials, the cover of “The Wild Hunt” was created by Zbigniew M Bielak, the very same artist who was responsible for the “Lawless Darkness” artwork. The piece depicts one of the inmost shrines of WATAIN‘s temple. As on every classic still life, each object has a significant meaning, while each song of the album is also connected to an object.

DEICIDE: ‘End The Wrath Of God’ Video Released

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

“End The Wrath Of God”, the new video from Florida death metal veterans DEICIDE, can be seen at this location. The song comes off the band’s latest album, “In The Minds Of Evil”, which sold 2,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release. Issued on November 25 via Century Media Records, the follow-up to 2011’s “To Hell With God” was recorded at AudioHammer Studios in Sanford, Florida with producer Jason Suecof (TRIVIUMAUGUST BURNS REDTHE BLACK DAHLIA MURDERALL THAT REMAINSWHITECHAPELDEVILDRIVER).

“To Hell With God” sold 2,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release.

DEICIDE‘s previous CD, “Till Death Do Us Part”, opened with 2,900 copies back in May 2008.

“In The Minds Of Evil” track listing:

01. In The Minds Of Evil
02. Thou Begone
03. Godkill
04. Beyond Salvation
05. Misery Of One
06. Between The Flesh And The Void
07. Even The Gods Can Bleed
08. Trample The Cross
09. Banished By Evil
10. Kill The Light Of Christ
11. End The Wrath Of God

The cover artwork (see below) was taken from Australian artist Simon Cowell‘s painting Power Of The Mind, and offers a fitting face to the album’s 11 tracks.

Steve Asheim recently told Decibel magazine about the band’s working relationship with Suecof: “It’s awesome! I’ve known Jason since ‘08. I had been going out to do the ORDER OF ENNEAD records with him. The last DEICIDE record we did with Mark [Lewis], but I’ve known Jason a long time, so I asked him if he was into it. He said, ‘Absolutely!’ I wanted to get one done ovith him before something happens. You never know.”

Regarding the lyrical themes covered on the new DEICIDE album, Asheim said: “[The lyrics] are typical Glen Benton. Blasphemous, brutal rhetoric. We’re going to get down and dirty this Blasphemous, brutal rhetoric. We’re going to get down and dirty this time around, so expect the lyrics to be brutal.”

According to Asheim, longtime fans will pick up on nuances inspired by the almighty “Legion” effort. “Jason wanted to capture the ‘Legion’ feel,” the drummer said. “We’re wanting Glen‘s vocals to sound more old-school. So, it’s a bit of the new with a little throwback action.”

As for DEICIDE‘s time at AudiohammerAsheim said: “It’s pretty cut-and-dried these days. I’ve known Jason a few years. I kind of know his methodology, how he works. It’s a far drive, so we’ll spend two or three nights there. Once we knock it out, we’ll end up partying. We repeat that the next day.”

BEHEMOTH: ‘Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel’ Video Released

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Polish extreme metallers BEHEMOTH will release their long-awaited new album, “The Satanist”, on February 3 in the U.K., February 4 in North America and Poland, February 5 in Japan, and February 7 in the rest of the world. Pre-order bundles, include: CD, LP, t-shirt, as well as the deluxe box set, and are available at metalblade.com/behemoth in North America, nuclearblast.de/behemoth in Europe, and on behemoth-store.com (digibook and box).

BEHEMOTH‘s video for the new single “Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel” has been unveiled. This visual masterpiece was produced by Grupa 13 and is one of BEHEMOTH‘s most unsettling and unique works to date, and can be viewed at this location.

BEHEMOTH frontman Adam “Nergal” Darski states about the video: “Yes, we took all the time in the world to complete this project. And we did everything that was humanely possible to accurately express our vision. We crossed the Rubicon.

‘Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel’ is an ecstatic manifest of our unrestrained artistic will, where we dare to reach out beyond the limitations of the heavy metal genre. And it’s only the beginning.”

“The Satanist” deluxe box, which is available in North America as an European import, includes: CD/DVD digibook in silver mirror slipcase with a high-quality 44-page booklet (with gold foil, UV gloss lamination), supersize poster flag (approx. 3.5’ x 5’), wooden black inverted rosary cross, metal pin, black envelope with black communion wafers. The DVD, “Live Barbarossa”, includes a professionally filmed show in Ekaterinburg, Russia, as well as 30-minute documentary about the creative process behind “The Satanist”.

“The Satanist” was produced by BEHEMOTHWojtek and Slawek Wieslawscy and Daniel Bergstrand at Hertz Studio. The CD was mixed by Matt Hyde (SLAYER) and mastered by Ted Jensen (METALLICAAC/DC) at Sterling Sound in New York City. The cover art for “The Satanist” was painted by renowned Russian painter and occultist Denis Forkas. The paint used included some of Nergal‘s own blood. Additional art and design was completed by Metastazis (PARADISE LOST) and Zbigniew Bielak (WATAINGHOST).

“I wanted to incorporate some of my DNA into the art,” Nergal told Australia’s Heavy magazine about having his blood included in “The Satanist” artwork.

“This album seems to be so defining of who we are now as people and as individuals, and considering all the instances in recent years, [we wanted] to make it more ‘ours’ than it is usually.”

In a recent interview with Revolver magazine, Darski described BEHEMOTH‘s new songs as “very atmospheric” and “very emotional.” “Think BURZUM meets NEW ORDER meets KILLING JOKE,” he added. But at the same time, fans shouldn’t expect the album to sound too far removed from BEHEMOTH‘s past efforts. “Take SLAYER, for example,” Darski said. “Whatever genre they deal with, they still end up sounding like SLAYER. Even when they were flirting with nu-metal, it was a SLAYER record. Same with BEHEMOTH.”

According to Darski, at least some of the inspiration for the new BEHEMOTH album came from his five-month bout of leukemia he overcame in January 2011, after receiving a bone-marrow transplant. “When I was in the hospital, I was collecting experiences and emotions,” he said. “I’m pretty sure that it’s coming out now. There are moments I catch myself thinking about how my state was back then. It was me versus life, me versus death. It definitely changed my thoughts a lot. It’s 100 percent being reflected in the record and songs I’m writing nowadays. I’m way more radical than I used to be.”

Fans can still order the limited edition 12-inch EP of “Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel” (1,000 white and 1,000 black, 180-gram vinyl) that will be released as a gatefold with each copy hand numbered and signed by the band. The 12-inch EP can be pre-ordered via BEHEMOTH‘s webstore, Nuclear Blast Europe webstore, and Metal Blade Records U.S. webstore.

“The Satanist” track listing:

01. Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel
02. Furor Divinus
03. Messe Noire
04. Ora Pro Nobis Lucifer
05. Amen
06. The Satanist
07. Ben Sahar
08. In the Absence ov Light
09. O Father O Satan O Sun!

KATATONIA: Lyric Video For Reimagined ‘The One You Are Looking For Is Not Here’

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

KATATONIA, Sweden’s master of dark rock, have released a lyric video for the reworked version of “The One You Are Looking For Is Not Here”, taken from the group’s upcoming “Dethroned And Uncrowned” album. The lyric video can be viewed at this location. The song originally appeared on KATATONIA‘s critically acclaimed 2012 release “Dead End Kings”, which has been reimagined on “Dethroned And Uncrowned”.

“Dethroned And Uncrowned” will be made available on September 10 in North America and will mark the band’s first release on Kscope — sister label to KATATONIA‘s longtime home Peaceville Records — to celebrate the label’s fifth anniversary.

KATATONIA guitarist and founding member Anders Nyström commented: “The synopsis is simple and album title won’t lie; the drums will be dethroned and the distorted rhythm guitars will be uncrowned! Instead, we’ll place the emphasis on the many layers of ambience, with the melodies staying central and the vocal harmonies representing the heart of the album.

“Think of the album like a person’s face in the hands of a surgeon, whose appearance is gonna change, but it’s still the same person behind that face and we guess an important factor, in this case, would be that the surgeon itself is obviously KATATONIA, not a stranger! If there’s one album in our repertoire that’s suited for a thing like this, it’s ‘Dead End Kings’.”

The album was funded by a successful PledgeMusic campaign that helped make the recording possible.

KATATONIA will release “Dethroned And Uncrowned” before embarking on a co-headlining North American tour, “Uncrowned & Vertikal Tour”, with CULT OF LUNA plus special guests INTRONAUT and TESSERACT. The two-week run will commence September 23 in Boston, Massachusetts.

Added KATATONIA vocalist Jonas Renkse: “Dear North Americans! We are happy to announce yet another co-headline tour in support of ‘Dead End Kings’, this time with fellow Swedes CULT OF LUNA plus support from INTRONAUT (U.S.) and TESSERACT (U.K.)!

“Since we have been touring your continent quite a bit the last few years, we thought it was about time to re-decorate the good ol’ setlist a little. Right now we are rehearsing and going through some of our hidden gems, songs that we haven’t yet picked up or rarely have played live before. It will probably be as exciting for you as it is for us!

“Please note that it won’t be an ‘old-school’ party, but an evening with atmosphere so thick you could cut it with a knife! Oh, and we will probably have time to play some of the ‘hits’ as well. All in all, we will squeeze out as much KATATONIA as possible each and every night, so let’s do this one together once again, shall we?”

“Dethroned And Uncrowned” will be available on double LP, download and as 2 disc (CD and DVD-AV) digibook set, which also features a 5.1 surround mix of the album.

“Dethroned And Uncrowned” track listing:

01. The Parting
02. The One You Are Looking For Is Not Here
03. Hypnone
04. The Racing Heart
05. Buildings
06. Leech
07. Ambitions
08. Undo You
09. Lethean
10. First Prayer
11. Dead Letters

“Dead End Kings” sold 3,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 138 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD landed at position No. 4 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

MEGADETH: ‘Countdown To Extinction: Live’ Due In September

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

In November and December of 2012, MEGADETH blazed hot on the band’s “Countdown To Extinction 20th Anniversary Tour”, ripping through their entire double platinum 1992 album from start to finish before performing other classics from their recorded catalog. FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE: New Song ‘Elegy’ Available For Streaming

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

“Elegy”, a brand new song from Italian symphonic death metallersFLESHGOD APOCALYPSE, can be streamed in the YouTUbe clip at this location. The track comes off the band’s new album, “Labyrinth”, which will be released on August 16 in Europe and August 20 in North America viaNuclear Blast Records. The CD was mixed and mastered by Stefano “Saul” Morabito. The cover artwork was once again created by Colin Marks, who was also responsible for several neoclassical pieces of art in the massive inlay.

Comments FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE’s Francesco Paoli: “‘Labyrinth’ is going to be THE album for FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE. It’s the perfect combination of all our strong points with the best production we’ve ever had. It’s definitely the most FLESHGOD thing we’ve ever thought with the most FLESHGOD riffs, lyrics, melodies, drumparts, solos, etc. We went deep inside the core of this music, we broke it, and we finally unleashed these eleven songs.

“I want to be honest, it needed so much work and time to come up with this, but now I’m like, ‘OK, next time will be tough to reach this point!’

“Honesty and quality pay, always, and all of you guys supporting the band DESERVE THE BEST.

“You might think that I’m overrating it just because it’s our ‘child,’ but trust me, this album is fuckin’ dangerous. Just take your time, listen to it and get lost into the ‘Labyrinth’.”

Added Tommaso Riccardi: “The concept of this album is based on the myth of the Labyrinth of Knossos and every character related to it. We focused on the philological aspect in order to represent all the elements of the classic world and, through a manic and meticolous research, we managed to create a metaphor with our times, as the maze can be associated with the endless search for what we really are. We’re sure you will be stunned by this as much as we are.”

“Labyrinth” track listing:

01. Kingborn
02. Minotaur (The Wrath Of Poseidon)
03. Elegy
04. Towards The Sun
05. Warpledge
06. Pathfinder
07. The Fall Of Asterion
08. Prologue
09. Epilogue
10. Under Black Sails
11. Labyrinth

WATAIN: ‘The Wild Hunt’ Format Details Revealed

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Swedish black metallers WATAIN wll release their new album, “The Wild Hunt”, on August 19 in Europe and August 20 in USA via the band’s own label His Master’s Noise through Century Media Records.

Produced once again by Tore Stjerna at his Necromorbus studio in Alvik, Sweden, “The Wild Hunt” is a sonic and lyrical tour-de-force that explores WATAIN’s roots, such as BATHORY and DISSECTION, while also remaining truly unique. Having lost none of their integrity, WATAINcontinues to push the boundaries of the scene with their fifth full-length, refusing to compromise their sound and vision. Amid the tracks teeming with the band’s classic sound, “The Wild Hunt” also features clean vocals (a first for the trio!) which, as frontman Erik Danielsson puts it, “is just us being brutally personal and honest. It shows another important facet of the WATAIN world.”

Executed in oil and mixed materials, the cover of “The Wild Hunt” was created by Zbigniew M Bielak, the very same artist who was responsible for the “Lawless Darkness” artwork. The piece depicts one of the inmost shrines of WATAIN’s temple. As on every classic still life, each object has a significant meaning, while each song of the album is also connected to an object.

CARCASS: First ‘Surgical Steel’ Trailer Released

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

A one-and-a-half-minute trailer for “Surgical Steel”, the comeback album from reactivated British extreme metal pioneers CARCASS, can be seen at this location. The CD will be released on September 16 in the U.K., September 13 in the rest of Europe and September 17 in North America via Nuclear Blast Records. The effort was produced by Colin Richardson (FEAR FACTORYMACHINE HEADNAPALM DEATH,SLIPKNOTBULLET FOR MY VALENTINE) and mixed by Andy Sneap(MEGADETHACCEPTEXODUSARCH ENEMY).

Joining guitarist Bill Steer and bassist/vocalist Jeff Walker in CARCASS’ current incarnation are new drummer Dan Wilding (ABORTED,TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED) and guitarist Ben Ash (PIG IRON,DESOLATIONLIQUEFIED SKELETON).

CARCASS’ first studio LP since 1996’s “Swansong” will feature guest vocals from original sticksman Ken Owen.

In a recent interview with Chile’s Radio FuturoWalker stated about the new CARCASS CD: “We think we’ve made a good album, so it’s gonna be very interesting when people get to hear the record. We can’t wait to see what people think.”

He continued: “It sounds like CARCASS. Even the drumming sounds likeCARCASS. Everything about it… I think it’s gonna shock people, how good it is. I think it’s got all the elements that people like, yet it still sounds fresh. So that’s all I can say, really, ‘cause we don’t really sound like any other band, and the fact that after 17 years, we wrote music and it still sounds like CARCASS, I think it’s good.”

In a separate interview with Terrorizer magazine, Steer spoke about how the decision to record a new CARCASS studio album came about.

“I found myself playing riffs that sounded like CARCASS,” he said. “This was after the band had finished the whole reunion cycle of shows and festivals. So, officially, I would have been playing with other bands and stuff, but for some reason whenever I picked up a guitar at home I was coming up with riffs that sounded like CARCASS. I got on the phone toJeff and said, ‘We could have a crack at writing a couple of tunes and seeing if they’re strong enough and take it from there.’ We also agreed if it didn’t sound like carcass or have that kind of vibe to it, we would just drop it. So that was the thing, we got together and started working on some stuff and just immediately got the excitement back very quickly.”

He added: “It definitely sounds like CARCASS. I think we just generally by accident captured the flavor of past music that we have done and you can’t help but push it forward. We have really been creative and when you are looking at things like guitar harmonies, it’s way more adventurous on this record. It’s not just parallel harmony like we did in the past, things branch off in different directions.

“A lot of what is happening now is based on rhythms rather than actual riffs. We were discussing this a lot during record sessions about how the riff is almost dying or dead already. People spend a lot of time chugging on the bottom string [but] that’s a rhythm, it’s not a riff. We can’t write a song, never mind an album, without it being chock-full of riffs.”

Stated Walker: “I’d like to feel like we are giving CARCASS fans what they want again. I’m a realist and I think Bill has realized and Dan know what people like about CARCASS. We’re definitely delivering.”

While the final track listing has yet to be confirmed, the following songs were recorded during the sessions:

The Master Butcher’s Apron
The Granulating Dark Satanic Mills
A Congealed Clot Of Blood
A Wraith In The Apparatus
316l Grade Surgical Steel
Cadaver Pouch Conveyor System
Captive Bolt Pistol
Intensive Battery Brooding
None Compliance To Astm F899-12 Standard
Mount Of Execution
1985/Thrasher’s Abattoir
Unfit For Human Consumption
Zochrot
Livestock Marketplace

Regarding the sound of the forthcoming CARCASS album, Walkerpreviously stated: “We’ve taken stylistic cues from all the albums because it’s in our blood, but it’s no rehash or mess of ideas. I think it sounds almost like the missing link between the third and forth albums but with some groove in there. I’ve jokingly christened some parts ‘trad blast’ and some ‘death sleaze’… don’t think for a minute this is just some nostalgic throwback album — we’re setting up another 17 years of ideas for other bands to copy and clean up on. [laughs]”

Asked if this means we’ll be hearing some death metal vocals out of Billfor the first time since “Necroticism”Walker told Decibel, “Yes, already in the can. It’s more along the lines of how I envisioned him backing me up on ‘Heartwork’. That said, my own vocals have a hell of a lot more range than they did in the past solely down to the luxury of having time to record them — I did all the vocals for ‘Heartwork’ in two days and it shows!”

Guitarist Michael Amott and drummer Daniel Erlandsson, who had been touring with CARCASS since the band’s reunion was announced in 2007, are no longer involved with the group due to scheduling conflicts with their main band, ARCH ENEMY.

CARCASS will support AMON AMARTH on their upcoming European tour.

DREAM THEATER: New Album Release Date, Cover Artwork, Track Listing Revealed

Progressive metal giants DREAM THEATER will release their new, self-titled album — the band’s 12th studio release overall, and fourth withRoadrunner Records — on September 24.

Says guitarist John Petrucci about “Dream Theater”: “I see every new album as an opportunity to start over. To either build or improve upon a direction that has been evolving over time or to completely break new ground.

“This is the first self-titled album of our career and there is nothing I can think of that makes a statement of musical and creative identity stronger than that. We’ve fully explored all of the elements that make us unique, from the epic and intense to the atmospheric and cinematic.

“We’re incredibly excited about ‘Dream Theater’ and can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”

The nine-track disc was recorded at Cove City Studio in Glen Cove, Long Island, with Petrucci producing and Richard Chycki engineering and mixing. It’s the band’s second album with drummer Mike Mangini, and the first one on which he was a part of the writing process from Day One.

In January, Petrucci said of Mangini’s work: “When people hear the drumming on this album, they’re gonna be pretty freaked out. On the last album, he did a great job, but he wasn’t there for the writing process and he was interpreting drum parts that I had programmed. Even though he used his creativity, of course, to change them up and do his thing, I feel like now he’s just Mike Mangini unleashed. It’s all him. It’s all his creativity, all his decisions and ideas and man, the guy’s an animal.”

“Dream Theater” track listing:

01. False Awakening Suite
I. Sleep Paralysis
II. Night Terrors
III. Lucid Dream
02. The Enemy Inside
03. The Looking Glass
04. Enigma Machine
05. The Bigger Picture
06. Behind The Veil
07. Surrender To Reason
08. Along For The Ride
09. Illumination Theory
I. Paradoxe de la Lumière Noire
II. Live, Die, Kill
III. The Embracing Circle
IV. The Pursuit of Truth
V. Surrender, Trust & Passion

“Dream Theater” will be available in a wide range of distinctive versions, including standard and special edition CDs, 180-gram double LP, and a limited-edition boxed set. Pre-orders are scheduled to launch in July at the Roadrunner Records webstore.

DREAM THEATER will be on tour in Europe in January and February 2014, and in North America in March 2014.

“Live At Luna Park”DREAM THEATER’s live concert, which was previously scheduled for release in May via Eagle Rock Entertainment, will now drop in North America on November 5 as a Blu-ray, 2DVD, 2DVD + 3CD, Blu-ray + 3CD, deluxe edition with 40-page book, Blu-ray + 2DVD + 3CD, and digital video via iTunes.

“Live At Luna Park” was filmed over two nights in South America — home to one of DREAM THEATER’s most ardent fanbases. The DVD was filmed August 19 and August 20, 2012 at Estadio Luna Park in Buenos Aires, Argentina after a 15-month world tour, hitting 35 countries.

ATHEIST Drummer Involved In Serious Car Accident

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Drummer Steve Flynn (pictured below) of reactivated seminal technical metal pioneers ATHEIST was recently involved in a serious car accident after another vehicle pulled in front of him at 50 mph. Flynn was taken by ambulance to a hospital and was treated for injuries to his wrist, neck and jaw. He still requires some physical therapy, but he is improving swiftly at his home in Atlanta.

The first three studio albums from ATHEIST — “Piece Of Time” (1989),“Unquestionable Presence” (1991) and “Elements” (1993) — were re-released on vinyl in North America on June 11 via Season Of Mist. The new editions are remastered on colored vinyl and limted to 500 copies per title worldwide.

ATHEIST — Kelly Shaefer (vocals), Steve Flynn (drums), Tony Choy(bass), Christoper Martin (guitar), Jason Holloway (guitar) — is writing material for its new full-length album and follow-up to 2010’s critically-acclaimed “Jupiter” CD.

“Jupiter” landed at position No. 88 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

“Jupiter” was released on November 9, 2010 (one day earlier internationally) via Season Of Mist. The CD was recorded at LedBellystudios in Atlanta, Georgia with engineer Matt Washburn and was mixed by Jason Suecof (TRIVIUMCHIMAIRADEVILDRIVER). DIAMOND PLATE Unveil New Album Title And Artwork

Chicago’s DIAMOND PLATE have officially revealed that their upcoming new album will be titled PULSE.

The follow-up to DIAMOND PLATE’s 2011 debut album, GENERATION WHY?, was recorded with producer NEIL KERNON (JUDAS PRIEST, NEVERMORE, DEICIDE, 3 INCHES OF BLOOD) at Studio Chicago in the band’s hometown.  DIAMOND PLATE revealed the album title to fans by posting one letter each day over the last week until the title was complete.

DIAMOND PLATE comments:

“During the months of recording, the album took on a life of its own.  Our goal was to capture the energy of a live band, and working with Neil gave us the freedom to create the music we’ve always wanted to play.  A straightforward explanation of the title ‘PULSE’ is that it represents music, or life, in its purest form.  The real meaning behind the album can only be discovered by the person using his/her ears.”

The artwork for PULSE was created by artist GUSTAVO SAZES (MORBID ANGEL, ARCH ENEMY, SEPULTURA).  View the artwork at http://earacherecords.com/myspace/diamondplate_pulse.jpg

PULSE is due to be released on August 20th in the USA via Century Media/Earache Records and on digital formats in Europe on August 19th.

THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER: ‘Goat Of Departure’ Video Released

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

“Goat Of Departure”, the new video from Michigan’s unstoppable sons of molten melodic death metal THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, can be seen atthis location. The clip, directed by Ben Mayer, was filmed last month in the band’s hometown of Detroit. In typical THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDERfashion, the video is over-the-top and even features the return of a classic THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER character, and a real, live goat.

Says THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER frontman Trevor Strnad: “It’s our pleasure to release our latest exercise in music video stupidity to you all at long last… We’d like to thank Guiness the Goat for penciling us in and all of the rabid THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER fans for getting wild with us. Press the play button and embrace the glory of the goat!”

“Goat Of Departure” comes off THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER’s sixth full-length album, “Everblack”, which sold 13,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 32 on The Billboard 200 chart.

“Everblack” was released on June 11 via Metal Blade Records. The CD was recorded at Audiohammer Studios (lead guitars and vocals),Rustbelt Studios (drums), and Regal Fecal (guitar and bass). Mixing was handled by Jason Suecof and Ryan Williams, mastering was completed by Alan Douches at West West Side Music (SEPULTURA,SUFFOCATIONUNEARTH) in New Windsor, New York. Frontman Trevor Strnad’s horror-inspired lyrics persist on “Everblack”, beginning with“In Hell Is Where She Waits For Me”, a reference to the murder from which the band took for its moniker. The cover artwork was painted by renowned artist Nick Keller.

MACHINE HEAD Announces New Bassist

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

San Francisco Bay Area metallers MACHINE HEAD have announcedJared MacEachern as their new bass player. Jared has already begun rehearsals with the rest of the band for the upcoming Rockstar Energy Mayhem Drink Festival tour and will soon relocate from North Carolina to Northern California to begin pre-production for MACHINE HEAD’s upcoming eighth studio release.

Some fans might remember MacEachern from MACHINE HEAD’s 2007“The Black Tyranny” tour, on which he performed with his previous band, SANCTITYMACHINE HEAD, challenged to find a fill-in bass player for the North American tour after an injury sidelined their then-four-stringer Adam Duce, also found themselves in need of someone to sing harmony with singer/guitarist Robb FlynnFlynn remembers: “We had locked in Brandon Sigmund of local boys HOSTILITY to play bass on that tour, but we soon realized we’d need someone to hit the high harmonies. Our A&R guy [at Roadrunner Records], Monte Conner, recommended Jared since he was already on the tour, and that ended up being a great call. Jared flew out a few days before the tour and rehearsed with us and did great. What was most impressive about the whole thing was that he was doing double duty — opening for MACHINE HEAD with his band at the time, SANCTITY, and then later singing with us. He would stay sober until after our set, and often get in the van and drive all night. His seriousness and dedication was awesome to see and it stuck with us.”

Earlier this year, MACHINE HEAD conducted an extensive search for candidates through various channels, the most fruitful of which proved to be video submissions. Sifting through more than 400 videos, the band personally reviewed and evaluated everyone’s performances, includingMacEachern, who made the short list without a second thought. Lead guitarist Phil Demmel recalls: “There were dozens of amazing players, and it was interesting to watch each one take on our tunes. One of our biggest criteria for this gig was to be able to sing the high harmonies. That was our litmus test. And Jared passed with flying colors.”

After reviewing all of the submissions, the band narrowed down the 400-plus candidates to a short list of seven, each of whom took a trip to Oakland to perform a handful of songs in person and spend the day hanging with the band. Drummer Dave McClain remembers: “Jaredcame in to the audition and just killed it! Besides being able to nail the bass and vocal harmonies, he also had the vibe and personality to make it feel like we were a BAND again. It was a great feeling and we all knew he was the guy.”

MacEachern first picked up concert bass at 12, and around the same time discovered metal. Jared recalls: “I heard the [METALLICA] song‘Unforgiven’ and really liked it. The next day my friend gave me [METALLICA’s first album] ‘Kill ‘Em All’ and it was over. I became completely enamored with all the metal bands of that time; METALLICA,MEGADETHSLAYER and PANTERA, but when it came to bass, it was all about Cliff Burton, he was, and is my dude.” With a brief stint at the Brevard School for Music Performance, Jared has consistently played bass for the past 22 years, most notably in SANCTITY, where oddly enough, the band needed a guitar player. “That was purely out of necessity,” he explains, “I’d been a bass player, but that gig opened up and I gave it a shot on the six-stringer.”

After extensive global touring with SANCTITY and the birth of Jared’s daughter in 2007, the band’s release from their label ignited Jared’s sense of responsibility and he quit the group to focus on her. But music stayed a part of his life and he continued to jam locally throughout the south with death metal bands FROM A DIG and TELIC, until he saw MACHINE HEAD were in need and thought he’d try out.

Frontman Robb Flynn reflects: “We really wanted a guy that was hungry for this, someone who could live and breathe this with us. Dave would joke around that we didn’t want to get someone too green that’d be, like, ‘Oh my god, is this a dressing room?!’, but we also didn’t want someone who was too jaded by the whole thing and ‘been there done that.’ We thought the perfect guy would be someone who’d paid some dues, who had done nine or ten crummy van tours, and wasn’t broken by that, but inspired to keep going and play music, and in many ways that was Jared. I mean, hell, the guy’s only rode in a bus for two nights, one of which was with us! It brings a really cool level of appreciation to the table, and it shows where his heart’s at.”

Jared enthuses: “I’m ready to get to work! This tour is going to kick ass and the new tunes are heavy as shit! I’m SO looking forward to making good music with good dudes!”

WATAIN: ‘All That May Bleed’ Lyric Video Released

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

The official lyric video for the song “All That May Bleed” from Swedish black metallers WATAIN can be seen at this location. The track comes off the band’s new album, “The Wild Hunt”, which will be released on August 19 in Europe and August 20 in USA via Century Media Records. The CD was once again mixed at the Necromorbus Studio in Alvik, Sweden by Tore Stjerna.

The “All That May Bleed” CD single will precede the full-length effort at the end of June.

Comments WATAIN: “‘All That May Bleed’ shows but one facet of a quite diverse album, but we chose this song as a first glimpse into ‘The Wild Hunt’ because of its bombastic lunacy and white-eyed malevolence which could be said to constitute a main foundation for the album. The lyric is an invitation to sacrificial blood letting, ecstatic zealotry and human sacrifice. The salt of Satan in the wounds of Christ!”

Side B will be a track called “Play With The Devil”, originally recorded by the black/heavy metal band TAIWAZ in 1988 in WATAIN’s hometown, Uppsala (Gottfrid Åhman from IN SOLITUDE participates on solo guitar on WATAIN’s version).

The lyric is an invitation to sacrificial blood letting, ecstatic zealotry and human sacrifice. The salt of Satan in the wounds of Christ!”

MALEVOLENT CREATION To Release New Song As Free Download

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Florida-based death metal veterans MALEVOLENT CREATION are preparing to record a new track for tentative release in July as a free download. The band says: “[It’s] just a way of getting some new music out to our loyal and much-appreciated fans!”

MALEVOLENT CREATION is also working on songs for a new full-length album. The group states: “It’ll be worth the wait! We’re writing some of the heaviest and fastest material in years!”

“The new MALEVOLENT CREATION is gonna be pretty different than the last album, which [we] always think is good for bands.

“This album is gonna be way fuckin’ HEAVY!!”

Regarding how MALEVOLENT CREATION has managed to retain its musical identity after going through so many lineup changes over the course of the last 20 years, drummer Gus Rios told Rádio Evil: “Since 1997, pretty much every single MALEVOLENT CREATION song anybody’s ever heard, me and Phil [Fasciana, guitar] actually wrote. I live in Fort Lauderdale, and so does Phil, and that’s the songwriting nucleus ofMALEVOLENT. So as long as the two of us are still in the band, it’s always gonna sound like MALEVOLENT CREATION, you know what I mean?! That’s the consistency of the band — the primary songwriters. And then, of course, Brett [Hoffman, vocals].”

MALEVOLENT CREATION’s latest album, “Invidious Dominion”, was released in August 2010 in North America via Nuclear Blast Records (in Europe through Massacre). The effort was made available in various territories as a regular CD; digipack with bonus material; and vinyl LP.

“Invidious Dominion” was recorded at Mana Recording Studios(CANNIBAL CORPSEVITAL REMAINSGOATWHORE) in St. Petersburg, Florida with producer Erik Rutan (MORBID ANGELHATE ETERNALCANNIBAL CORPSE). The CD’s cover art was created by renowned artist Pär Olofsson (THE FACELESSIMMORTALABYSMAL DAWN).

COFFINS: Tokyo’s Torture Squad Brutalizes With New Noise At Pitchfork

Now less than a month from release is the anticipated fourth full-length from Japan’s kings of mid-paced carnage COFFINS, as The Fleshland engulfs the North American masses on July 9th via Relapse.

As the stench of The Fleshland festers, growing more apparent as the release date closes in, today another slab of the album’s carrion is dropped onto the public via the pungent “Rotten Disciples,” the mantra now playing at mainstream music portal Pitchfork who states the new single, “is classic Coffins, a guttural prayer dredged up from the bowels of Hell and graced with a murky, tortured doom riff and a colossal mid-song groove.”

Listen to the grotesque message of COFFINS and their “Rotten Disciples” with Pitchfork AT THIS LOCATION.

The first whiff of The Fleshland was also released in the form of an animated lyric video for “The Vacant Pale Vessel,” bringing the gorestrewn Chris Moyen cover illustration (Morbosidad, Black Witchery, Incantation, Blasphemy, etc.) to life; view it RIGHT HERE.

Easily one of the most awaited death/doom albums of 2013, The Fleshland is the first proper studio album from COFFINS since their commended Buried Death album, released by 20 Buck Spin in 2008, and first official album for Relapse Records. Recorded at Tokyo’s Noise Room Studio with engineer Shigenori Kobayashi, and produced by Bungo Uchino and the rest of COFFINSThe Fleshland shows the revamped and expanded band lineup smashing down everything in their path, having upped the lineup from a trio to a quartet with a new drummer and full-time vocalist since Buried Death. Nine grisly numbers thunder with the unbeatable mid-paced COFFINS stomp, laying down over forty-five minutes of bruising low-end sludge-infiltrated, plodding doom with possibly the best production values in the band’s meaty catalog of carnage. Relapse will release The Fleshland via CD, download and mammoth 2xLP, including a deluxe black and white artwork edition available only via Relapse mailorder. Preorder package are available HERE.

COFFINS have also confirmed a massive string of live performances across Japan and much of Europe on tour for the coming months including major festivals including Brutal Assault, Party San Metal Open Air, Leperfest and more, with additional excursions being devised. BLACK SABBATH: ‘God Is Dead?’ Video Released

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

“God Is Dead?”, the brand new video from BLACK SABBATH, can be seen at this location. The song is the debut single from “13”, the first BLACK SABBATH record in 35 years to feature singer Ozzy Osbourne, guitaristTony Iommi and bassist Geezer Butler all playing together.

The “God Is Dead?” clip was directed by controversial filmmaker and social activist Peter Joseph, who is best known for his counter-culture/social revolution film series under the banner title of “Zeitgeist”, meaning the “general intellectual, moral and cultural climate of an era.”

What was deemed more of a “short film” than a music video, the work had its world premiere screening at the band’s June 6 album release in Hollywood’s Harmony Gold Preview Center. Comprised of symbology extracted from his documentary trilogy, coupled with layers of imposed archival imagery of the band, marking their history in a unique abstraction, the “God is Dead?” official music video is a sign of the times.

In an interview, Joseph stated about his collaboration with BLACK SABBATH: “After an initial hesitancy in the direction proposed using just existing footage from my films, I quickly realized it was to be an extremely interesting and original expression. The gesture of the song‘God is Dead?’, with its subtle reflection on the often dark world we inhabit and questioning of how such a world can be if there was a god, resonated with me.”

He continued: “It was expressed at the start that my work had been an influence on the song to begin with, so that was very inspiring to hear.

“I grew up listening to early BLACK SABBATH and am a big fan of the core message. Songs such as ‘War Pigs’ and the anti-war, pro-unity gesture found in those early albums are very much in line with my values. I was honored to help.”

A musician as well as a filmmaker and outspoken social critic, Josephhas run the gamut of socially conscious expressions, including founding the global sustainability advocacy group The Zeitgeist Movement, along with being the founder/curator of the annual Zeitgeist Media Arts Festival, which holds its annual event each year in Hollywood for socially conscious art. He hosts an online satire web series called “Culture in Decline” and is in production of a new feature film series called“InterReflections”.

“13” is due out June 11 on Vertigo/Republic. This marks BLACK SABBATH’s return to Vertigo, their original label, and the group’s first studio album together since 1978’s “Never Say Die!”

Osbourne went on the BBC in England to discuss “God Is Dead?” and the inspiration behind the track. Ozzy explained, “I was in somebody’s office and there was a magazine on a table and it just said, ‘God Is Dead’, and I suddenly thought about 9/11 and all these terrorist things and religion and how many people have died in the name of religion. When you think about the tragedy that’s happened throughout time, it just came in my head. You’d think by now that their God would have stopped people dying in the name of, so I just starting thinking that people must be thinking, ‘Where is God? God is dead’ and it just hit me.”

Ozzy added that the question mark at the end of the title is his way of showing that he’s not sure about the answer himself, saying, “At the end of the thing, there’s still a bit of hope because there I sing that I don’t believe that God is dead. It’s just a question of when you see so many dreadful people killing each other with bombs, and blowing the tube trains up and the World Trade Center.”

The drum tracks on the album were laid down by RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE sticksman Brad Wilk following original drummer Bill Ward’s decision to bow out of the reunion.

Ozzy told an Australian radio station that “13” is “mind-blowing,” adding, “It’s better than my wildest dreams; it’s so good.”

SABBATH kicked off its world tour in support of “13” on April 20 in Auckland.

AMON AMARTH: Final Segment Of Three-Part Mini Documentary Revealed

The final segment of AMON AMARTH’sForging Mjölnir mini documentary premieres today! The intimate three-part account comes in celebration of their forthcoming new studio offering, Deceiver of the Gods, set for worldwide release later this month. Directed by Luke Daley (http://makezure.com), the striking black and white film offers candid commentary with each member on a host of subjects.

Watch the concluding clip where the AMON AMARTH collective discuss the struggles of tour life, recording and their hopes for the future via their microsite at http://deceiver.amonamarth.com.

Having blasted onto the Swedish melodic death metal scene with 1998’s Once Sent from the Golden Hall, every AMON AMARTH album has arrived bursting at the seams with power, melody and immersive storytelling centered around the richness of Norse mythology.Deceiver of the Gods captures the quintet at the peak of their powers.

Their ninth epic wasrecorded at Backstage Studios in Derbyshire, UK and produced, mixed and mastered by Andy Sneap, a man whose resumé includes seminal albums from the likes of Cathedral, Arch Enemy, and Cradle Of Filth. Vocalist Johan Hegg explains, “We wanted more of a live feeling to the recording and we felt that Andy’s style of producing could definitely help us with that. At the same time, knowing the records he worked on previously we felt he could probably help develop our sound so it became a little bit more angry and dangerous, without that polished sheen of our recent records.” Guitarist Olavi Mikkonen concurs, and credits Sneap with playing a pivotal role in just how aggressive the finished product is. “It’s rougher, and like a punch in the face, which is what we wanted it to be. Though adding more thrash elements into a few of the songs helps the whole album sound more hostile, it’s ultimately the production that makes them sound more aggressive. On the last few records it didn’t matter how aggressive the riffs we wrote were, whenever we went into the studio at the end they just didn’t sound as intense.” In tracking the record at Sneap’s UK studio, as much as possible the band recorded long takes rather than clinically piecing things together, determined to give the album as much life as they could. “Fredrik [Andersson] recorded all the drums live, with the guys playing guitars and bass along with him to get the groove of it, and that makes for the energy that you don’t get when everyone records separately, and I think that really comes across,” Hegg states. “I think that was a very good way to record for us, it gave everyone a better feel of each song, and it was a good time being in the studio and laying it all down.”

Deceiver of the Gods boasts another exceptional Tom Thiel-created cover depicting a mythical battle between the Norse Gods Loki and Thor. As an added bonus,Messiah Marcolin (Candlemass) makes an appearance as guest vocalist on eighth track, “Hel.”

For special Deceiver of the Gods preorder packages as well as a stream of the title track, go to this location: http://www.metalblade.com/amonamarth. Additionally, you can still check out “Shape Shifter” currently streaming via Stereogum HERE.

Deceiver of the Gods will be released in North America via Metal Blade Records June 25th, in Europe June 21st/24th and Japan on June 26th.

CHTHONIC: Exclusive Video Premiere Brought To You By Revolver Magazine

Following the release of the stunning video singles for “Defenders Of Bú-Tik Palace” and “Sail Into The Sunset’s Fire” from their forthcoming new full-length Bú-Tik, Taiwanese metal ensemble CHTHONIC are pleased to unleash their latest work of cinematic magnificence in the form of “Supreme Pain For The Tyrant.”

The video carries on the band’s mission to build awareness of the myths of Taiwan and the tragic events in their country’s history. On April 24, 1970, a member of the World United Formosans for Independence, Peter Huang, attempted to assassinate Chiang Ching-kuo, who was the Vice Premier of the Republic of China at the time, in front of the Plaza Hotel in New York. The attempt failed, however, when pushed to the ground by security personnel, Huang shouted, “Let me stand up like a Taiwanese!”

While the theme of the song “Supreme Pain For The Tyrant” is about assassination, the music video recounts a story in which CHTHONIC members travel through time and space to penetrate into a reception held after Nazi Germany and the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) government inked a deal on military cooperation in Shanghai in the 1930s to assassinate the officials.

The video is a collaboration between film directors Cheng Wen-tang and Chang Yih-feng, was shot inside the Kaohsiung Museum of History and includes group dance, combat fighting, gambling tables, alcohol and more as well as the fundamental elements of the golden age in Shanghai. Two buses were hired to move the entire crew to Kaohsiung. Additionally, renowned choreographer Bulareyaung Pagarlava (Cloud Gate Dance Theatre) led a group of Department of Dance students from National Taiwan University of Arts to work on the dance segments of the clip.

“This is a rare experience that gives me a chance to work with a different genre of music,” said Bulareyaung, who choreographed for heavy metal music for the first time. “I was determined to take part in creating the music video when I heard the phrase ‘let me stand up like a Taiwanese’ in the song.”

Martial arts director Yang Chih-lung again directed the action part. Different from the video for “Defenders of Bú-Tik Palace,” the action scenes in the latest clip are more close quarters combat style. At first, CHTHONICmembers thought things would be easier without having to dangle from suspension wire, however, the shooting turned out to be equally challenging.

“The director asked for a real fight, so we did, and got bruises all over our arms and legs,” elaborates vocalist Freddy Lim. In fact, Freddy and guitarist Jesse Liu even harmed the actor who posed as their rival in the shooting. “Before the director called a stop, I was already apologizing. I saw the guy bleeding after he was hit by me,” Liu said.

“It’s hard enough to write music, but it’s even more tiring to shoot a music video,” adds bassist Doris Yeh, who took part in the entire production process. “But I have to say that a video tells a story very well, and CHTHONIC’s music is especially suitable for a music video, because it contains a strong sense of history. I learned a lot in shooting these three music videos; I would love to have the opportunity to work with more directors.” She also thanked the Kaohsiung City Government and the Film Development and Production Center under the city’s Bureau of Cultural Affairs for their assistance. “A historical scene is the key to the success of the music video; we’re grateful that the city would allow us to shoot the video in a historic building, and provided us all kinds of support in our work.”

View the exclusive video premiere of“Supreme Pain For The Tyrant,” courtesy of Revolver Magazine, at THIS LOCATION.

CHTHONIC’s seventh studio recording, Bú-Tik, was recorded at Sweden’s Sweetspot Studio by producer Rickard Bengtson, who also worked on 2011’s critically-lauded Takasago Armyfull-length. Centered around the story of the 228 Massacre, the Bú-Tik Palace and the Mirror Of Retribution, Bú-Tik highlights what bassist Doris Yeh describes as “righteous violence, justifiable defense, and the armed spirits!”

Bú-TikBú-Tik will be released in North America via Spinefarm Records US digitally on June 18, 2013 and on CD June 25 2013. For pre-orders, point your browser HERE.
