Moonsorrow - Jumalten Aika

Moonsorrow [Finland]
Jumalten aika
Full Length
Century Media Records
Folk/Pagan/Black Metal

I’ve heard of Moonsorrow since their 2007 album, V: Hävitetty, but being young and impatient back then, the band’s brand of epic metal failed to capture my attention. So it was with little knowledge of the band’s sound that I chance upon this Finnish outfit’s seventh full length album, Jumalten aika. With all the band’s release up till 2011’s Varjoina kuljemme kuolleiden maassa drawing critical acclaim, it is with little surprise that fans of the band hold high hopes for the record, especially with the long 5-year wait.

NACHTMYSTIUM Preparing To Enter Studio

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Blake Judd of Chicago-based extremists NACHTMYSTIUM has issued the following update:

“Less than 10 days until the beginning of NACHTMYSTIUM’s new albums recording session. Totally new approach in all ways this time around… new studio, new engineer, new players…

“This is going to be interesting to see how this goes. I’m producing the whole thing myself and have only hired a bass player and a drummer to do the album with the intentions of doing almost everything else myself and most likely writing the entire record.

“[We are] locking ourselves in a studio an hour and a half outside of Chicago for four weeks (longest session we’ve ever had), coming home for 10 days once primary tracking is complete and then heading back up on August 5th – 14th to finish vocals, overdubs and mixing. Have a great team on board consisting of John Porada from TERMINATE on bass guitar and Sam Shroyer from HATE MEDITATION and VITANDUS on drums.

“[The new NACHTMYSTIUM CD is] being recorded at Belle City Soundby my old bud Chris Wisco (who recorded the vocals and some overdubs and mixed ‘Worldfall’ for us back in 2007) at his new studio in Racine, Wisconsin.

“[I am] expecting a very different outcome in all ways with this record.

“[I am] excited to be totally isolated from my day-to-day life for the first time while making an album since ‘Eulogy IV’ in 2004. Should be interesting…”

NACHTMYSTIUM’s sixth album, “Silencing Machine”, was released in July 2012 via Century Media Records. The CD, which is described byJudd as “a fuckin’ black metal record,” was recorded at Engine Studioswith the band’s own synths/electronics specialist Sanford Parker (YOB,PELICAN) handling production duties.

HUNTRESS: ‘Zenith’ Video Teaser

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

A teaser for “Zenith”, the new video from the Los Angeles-based, occult-themed, female-fronted traditional heavy metal band HUNTRESS, can be seen at this location. The song comes off the group’s sophomore album,“Starbound Beast”, which will be released on June 28 in Europe and on July 2 in North America via Napalm Records. The CD was recorded atHobby Shop Studios in Los Angeles with producer Chris “Zeuss” Harris(SHADOWS FALLHATEBREEDMUNICIPAL WASTE). The cover artwork for the effort was once again created by Vance Kelly (THE SWORDGRAVEYARDHIGH ON FIREPENTAGRAMALICE IN CHAINSAVENGED SEVENFOLDDEATH ANGEL), who previously worked on the group’s debut album, last year’s “Spell Eater”.

“Starbound Beast” includes the track “I Want to Fuck You to Death”, which was co-written for Jill Janus by legendary MOTÖRHEAD frontmanLemmy Kilmister.

Says Janus about the collaboration: “I met Lemmy through my former band CHELSEA GIRLS. We’d play hard rock and metal covers featuring guest celebrities. Lemmy was already friends with the girls, so he played‘Ace Of Spades’ with us and it blew my mind. We stayed in touch and would meet up at The Rainbow for drinks. So I asked him a few months back over Jack & Cokes if he’d write lyrics for a HUNTRESS song and he said, ‘Sure’. A few weeks later, I met him at the studio duringMOTÖRHEAD recording sessions. Lemmy handed me two two pieces of notebook paper with the lyrics for ‘I Want to Fuck You to Death’.

“I am beyond honored. To me, this is a love song. It is the most romantic song I’ve ever heard.”

Lemmy said: “The first time I heard Jill’s voice with CHELSEA GIRLS, it was phenomenal.

“I wrote these lyrics from her point of view, the Huntress. ‘I Want To Fuck You To Death’ was inspired by her, written for her. I’ve always had a soft spot for her. And a hard spot too…”

The song is available as an exclusive stream on the HUNTRESS Facebook page. When visiting the page, clicking the “like” button will enable the audio.

DREAM THEATER Completes Mixing New Album

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Progressive metal giants DREAM THEATER have completed mixing their new, self-titled album for a September 24 release via Roadrunner Records. The band’s guitarist, John Petrucci, writes on Facebook: “[I] can’t wait to share the new music with everyone!”

“Dream Theater” was recorded at Cove City Sound Studios in Glen Cove, New York, with founding guitarist John Petrucci producing and studio luminary Richard Chycki (AEROSMITHRUSH) engineering and mixing. The album marks a brilliant new chapter for the always adventurous band, their first to have been written and recorded with drummer Mike Mangini wholly integrated into the creative process from the start.

“I see every new album as an opportunity to start over,” says Petrucci. “To either build or improve upon a direction that has been evolving over time or to completely break new ground. This is the first self-titled album of our career and there is nothing I can think of that makes a statement of musical and creative identity stronger than that. We’ve fully explored all of the elements that make us unique, from the epic and intense to the atmospheric and cinematic. We’re incredibly excited about ‘Dream Theater’ and can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”

“Dream Theater” will be available in a wide range of distinctive versions, including standard and special-edition CDs, 180-gram vinyl double LP, and a limited-edition box set. Pre-orders are scheduled to get underway sometime in July at the Roadrunner Records webstore.

Asked whether having drummer Mike Mangini involved in the songwriting process this time around has made a difference in the new CD’s overall sound, keyboardist Jordan Rudess recently said: “It really has. This is the first album where Mike Mangini [who joined the band in Ocober 2010] has been there and really part of the writing process. He’s such a sweet guy and he has so much energy, and it’s just great to have that energy involved when we’re writing the music, ‘cause he’ll come up with stuff that’s really cool. We’ll be composing along our merry way and stop to maybe look at the next part, and he offers this other perspective which we never had in the same way that we have it with him, which is that he has a super math brain — a rhythmic math brain; he’s really an expert in that field, more so than myself or [guitarist] John Petrucci or anybody in the band — so he can say, ‘Guys, if you play 10 measures at 7, and if you play triplets five times, and you do this and that, it’s all gonna equal out in 21 measures. Go ahead and try it.’ And at first, we’re , like, ‘What?’ But he kind of sees that; he sees that map.”

In a recent interview with Roadrunner RecordsPetrucci stated about the making of DREAM THEATER’s new CD: “First of all, it’s been going great with [Mangini], and as much as we’ve been a band together for about 15 years, we haven’t really experienced that process together. We’ve been in the studio for a few weeks now, and he’s been amazing. Chemistry is great, the writing process and the whole vibe is great, and his role is to let his personality shine as a drummer, creatively and to have his input and his musical personality really come through. And I gotta tell you, it’s happening. When people hear the drumming on this album, they’re gonna be pretty freaked out. On the last album, he did a great job, but he wasn’t there for the writing process and he was interpreting drum parts that I had programmed. Even though he used his creativity, of course, to change them up and do his thing, I feel like now he’s just Mike Mangini unleashed. It’s all him. It’s all his creativity, all his decisions and ideas and man, the guy’s an animal.”

“Live At Luna Park”DREAM THEATER’s live concert, which was previously scheduled for release in May via Eagle Rock Entertainment, will now drop in North America on November 5 as a Blu-ray, 2DVD, 2DVD + 3CD, Blu-ray + 3CD, deluxe edition with 40-page book, Blu-ray + 2DVD + 3CD, and digital video via iTunes.

“Live At Luna Park” was filmed over two nights in South America — home to one of DREAM THEATER’s most ardent fanbases. The DVD was filmed August 19 and August 20, 2012 at Estadio Luna Park in Buenos Aires, Argentina after a 15-month world tour, hitting 35 countries.

MOONSORROW: Ultra-Limited, Ultra-Deluxe-Quality Box Set Coming Soon

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Finnish crusaders of epic heathen metal MOONSORROW have issued the following update:

“Folks, we have some EPIC news!

“As you know, we don’t like to compromise or do things in a small way.

“We are proud to announce what might be the biggest LP box set in the history of metal!

“We will be releasing an ultra-limited, ultra-deluxe-quality collected works of MOONSORROW. This insanely massive 13-LP collection will be the largest metal retrospective to date, including more than six hours worth of music that has never before touched wax.

“We have been working in strict conjunction with the label Blood Musicfor more than six months to create the highest-quality-possible collection of our works.

“This box set will be very limited, very collectable and a very special release, including lots of material never released by us. And some will be never released after this. So when this set is gone it’s gone forever!

“Around a year ago, we got into contact with Blood Music, a company that is making a stellar job with their LP releases. Everything they have released have been stunning for us to see, with the best packaging and attention to detail. So after all these years of searching for the right partner to release our works on vinyl, we can finally say that we found one!”

MOONSORROW last year inked a worldwide deal with Century Media Records.

2011 saw the release of MOONSORROW’s most majestic album of the year, “Varjoina Kuljemme Kuolleiden Maassa”, a full-fledged concept effort about a world after annihilation.
