The first time I heard of The Moth Gatherer was 2 years ago with their last album, A Braight Celestial Light. Not knowing better then, the Swedes were a novelty in terms of the epic soundscape that they managed to create and the fusing of post rock elements into their style of metal. 2 years later, the band returns with their brand new effort The Earth is the Sky, which led me to revisit A Braight Celestial Light resulting in new insights, and better appreciation of these Swedes.

Seven albums and 14 years later, I finally got about to really discovering Kylesa and their psychedelic, progressive style of sludge metal. A little late to the party, nonetheless I guess it’s better to be late than not discovering good music. This year marks the release of Kylesa‘s seventh opus, Exhausting Fire and with the rather good run of stoner and sludge metal in the past 2 years, expectations are rather high for this trio’s brand new release.

My current run of infatuation with the stoner/doom metal genre has resulted in me discovering bands that I would have otherwise not have heard of, including those with such exotic names as SkraeckoedlanSagor is the Swedish fuzz-rock’s sophomore full length album, and in my quest to find more atmospheric/ambient, the artwork on the album certainly catches my eye.

ELUVEITIE Announces New Violinist

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Swiss folk metallers ELUVEITIE have announced the addition of violinist Nicole Ansperger to the group’s ranks.

Says the band in a statement: “As hard as farewells can be, as auspicious are new beginnings!

“We are thrilled to introduce to you Meri‘s [Tadic] successor.

“We consider ourselves lucky to have found a true master of Celtic folk fiddling! A full-blooded musician and violin player through and through, she has played countless shows over many years and also played as a session musician for many well-known acts (such as THE HOOTERS, for instance). During the last ten years, she further made a name for herself through her engagement with the Irish folk rock bands PADDY GOES TO HOLYHEAD and ACROSS THE BORDER, but also the renowned medieval/classical metal act HAGGARD. Not only a virtuoso of the fiddle, she also plays the seven-stringed violin as well as the cello!”

Adds Nicole: “I am absolutely delighted to be ELUVEITIE‘s new violin player.

I love ELUVEITIE‘s music and have been a fan myself for a long time.

“Is there anything better than getting to play for the band you love?

“I am looking forward to many sweat-inducing, incredible shows with you and the band.”

Nicole will make her live debut with ELUVEITIE at the “Eluveitie & Friends III” festival, which will take place on December 28 in Frauenfeld, Switzerland. Nicole and the rest of ELUVEITIE will play, as an exclusively premiere at this show, a brand new song from their next album.

ELUVEITIE‘s latest album, “Helvetios”, sold 4,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 143 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD landed at position No. 3 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

“Helvetios” was released in Europe on February 10, 2012 via Nuclear Blast RecordsNew Sound Studio in Pfäffikon, a municipality in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland, with producer Tommy Vetterli (a.k.a. Tommy T. BaronCORONER/ex-KREATOR guitarist). According to the band, Vetterli ”record[ed] drums, guitars and vocals and also produc[ed] and mix[ed] the record. Most folk instruments and also vocals [were] recorded by Anna Murphy and Marco Jencarelli at the Soundfarm studios in Lucerne.”

HIRAX: Complete ‘Immortal Legacy’ Details Revealed

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

California thrashers HIRAX will release their new album, “Immortal Legacy”, on March 4, 2014 (February 24 in Europe) via SPV/Steamhammer. It will be made available as a CD, gatefold colored LP and a digital download.

“On our new album we more than ever felt an artistic obligation to our fans to give them a really big-sounding record,” says HIRAX singer Katon W. De Pena.

“Our philosophy has always been to remember where we come from and stay true to our roots.

“Our fans know that we will never let them down and that they have helped to raise us up to a level with bands such as SLAYERSODOMKREATOREXODUSOVERKILLTESTAMENTANNIHILATOR and many others.

“This record proves that we are at the top of our game musically.”

According to Katon W. De Pena, the reason “Immortal Legacy” sounds so powerful is the fact that the members of HIRAX‘s current lineup agree 100 percent on the group’s stylistic direction.

Lance [Harrison, guitar] is a riff-writing master and a major force to reckon with,” says Katon. “Nicknamed the Shred Baron for obvious reasons. He believes in heavy metal 100 percent.” His younger brother Steve (bass) is an important part of the HIRAX sound. “Nobody plays bass like him,” says Katon. “There is a unique sound and bond between Steve and his brother. As a bass player, he is a true musician.”

Last but not least, there’s Jorge Iacobellis (drums and percussions), who was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Iacobellis is a seasoned veteran who plays with lots of heart and soul. Katon says: “The best way I can describe his drumming style is loud and powerful.”

The most unusual song on “Immortal Legacy” is “The World Will Burn” which has to be heard to be believed, according to Katon. His favorite track on the record changes daily, “but if I had to decide today, it would be ‘Black Smoke’, along with the title track, ‘Immortal Legacy’. Once you hear them, you will never forget them.”

“Immortal Legacy” was produced by Bill Metoyer (SLAYERARMORED SAINTW.A.S.P.SACRED REICH) who previously worked with HIRAX in the early 1980s on their first two albums. Metoyer is a master of his craft and HIRAX feel honored and lucky to have him working with them. For KatonBill is a “musical wizard and his work on our new album is genius.”

The cover of “Immortal Legacy” was created by legendary artist Philip Lawvere (KREATORCELTIC FROST), marking his first oil painting in 25 years since coming out of retirement. He is the artist behind such classic album covers as KREATOR‘s “Pleasure To Kill” and CELTIC FROST‘s “Emperor’s Return”Lawvere had done stunning illustrations for numerous albums and is best known for a slew of thrash metal offerings released on Noise Records. The HIRAX frontman comments: “We couldn’t be happier to have Philip Lawvere illustrating the cover of our new album. After getting Bill Metoyer to produce it, this is truly the icing on the thrash metal cake!”

With guest guitar players Jim Durkin (DARK ANGEL), Juan Garcia (AGENT STEEL, EVILDEAD) and Rocky George (SUICIDAL TENDENCIESFISHBONE) on the album, Katon is excited about a real metal monster that his band has produced.

“This is our most epic-sounding record to date, sonically powerful and over the top,” he says. “14 new raging thrash metal songs that will make you bang your head!!!”

He adds: “This is probably our most diverse album ever. I think there is something for every heavy metal fan on this record! Obviously I’m very proud of it.”

“From the first show in Zaragoza/Spain to the last show in Yekaterinburg/Russia, ‘The Lord Of Steel’ world tour was a terrific experience,” said MANOWAR bassist Joey DeMaio. “Performing new songs for the first time in front of your audience is the ultimate test of the power of the songs to connect to the only people that matter. Our fans were totally brutalized and went wild as you will hear on this new EP. ‘The Lord Of Steel Live’ is a thank you to our amazing fans; it will forever immortalize this tour and those who attended it.”

The album will be mixed and mastered at MANOWAR’s own studios Hell and Haus Wahnfried by Joey DeMaio personally with longtimeMANOWAR engineer Dirk Kloiber.

“The Lord Of Steel Live” will be released digitally as an iTunesexclusive worldwide on July 9, and on CD in retail and throughTheKingdomOfSteel.com on August 16

Featured tracks:

01. El Gringo
02. Expendable
03 Hail, Kill And Die
04. Manowarriors
05. The Lord Of Steel
06. Thunder In The Sky

“The Lord Of Steel” is now available in stores and on iTunes and was first celebrated live during Leg 1 of “The Lord Of Steel World Tour” in Spain, France, Holland, Germany, Czech Republic and Russia.

Asked why MANOWAR chose to release “The Lord Of Steel” in digital format several months before the retail release, DeMaio toldRockpages.gr: “MANOWAR have always worked with the latest technology. Thankfully, our fans have more options than ever to choose how they get their music and when.

“We are proud to be able to give our fans multiple choices: We have released a limited edition of the album in collaboration with Metal Hammer U.K., with its own artwork and special mixes as a first look at what is to come. For those who prefer digital content and wish this limited version, they have the option of getting it as download album.

“The worldwide retail release [is] available with different versions of the songs and a totally different mix and master as CD and limited vinyl, both with spectacular new art by Ken Kelly. And, of course, this version [is] available as digital album as well. The fans can decide which options and configurations they prefer.”

Regarding the difference between MANOWAR’s previous studio album,“Gods Of War”, and “The Lord Of Steel”DeMaio said: “All of our albums are different from one another, unlike other groups who constantly try to keep to a formula.

“After the massive production of ‘Gods Of War’, our vision this time was a stripped down, brutally raw, unique sound; ‘lean and mean,’ so to speak.

“We had started working on material prior Donnie [Hamzik, drums] return to the band.

MANOWAR are a unit. Every band member brings in a unique contribution, so it was only logical for us to start over and include Donniefrom the beginning of the creative process.

“Some people will say its a shame to abandon something you have invested a lot of time and energy in, but that’s the way we work. It has to feel right for all of us.”

AMON AMARTH: Track-By-Track Video Premiere Hosted By Metal Insider

In celebration of its impending North American release just one week away, today Metal Insider offers up an exclusive track-by-track video premiere of AMON AMARTH’s Deceiver of the Gods. The vibrant art clip includes snippets of each of the record’s epic ten tracks. Additionally, fans can enjoy the accompanying written commentary discussing the themes of each song as relayed by vocalist Johan Hegg.

Check out the video, hosted by Metal Insider, at THIS LOCATION.

Having blasted onto the Swedish melodic death metal scene with 1998’s Once Sent from the Golden Hall, every AMON AMARTH album has arrived bursting at the seams with power, melody and immersive storytelling centered around the richness of Norse mythology.Deceiver of the Gods is no exception, capturing the band at the peak of their powers.

Recorded at Backstage Studios in Derbyshire, UK and produced, mixed and mastered by Andy Sneap (Opeth, Megadeth, Exodus, Arch Enemy, Killswitch Engage) Deceiver Of The Gods boasts another exceptional Tom Thiel-created cover depicting a mythical battle between the Norse Gods Loki and Thor.

Though the record isn’t limited to one specific theme, the character of Loki, commonly thought of as a dark and mischievous entity, has a strong presence, and also inspired the title Deceiver Of The Gods. For Hegg however, the appeal of the character lies with the fact he is not simply drawn in black and white, as others might believe. “I think what’s intriguing about him is that he’s probably the most human of all the gods in northern mythology. A lot of people see him as an evil character, but he’s not the equivalent of Satan. He also does a lot of good things, and particularly with his talent for diplomacy he manages to get the gods out of trouble a lot of times. The only problem is that he’s usually the one that gets them into trouble in the first place! I just think he is really engaging in that he possesses a lot of human traits in the sense that we can do good and bad. We can be fantastic people and great people and huge people, and we can be very, very small people. We can be small minded and egocentric and devious and all of those negative things, and I like how he reflects that.”

Deceiver of the Gods will be released in North America via Metal Blade Records June 25th, in Europe June 21st/24th and Japan on June 26th. Special preorder packages are still available at this location: http://www.metalblade.com/amonamarth.

KYLESA will play a free, all-ages show in its hometown of Savannah at The Dollhouse on April 19 as a way to thank fans for their ongoing support.

“Whereas ‘Spiral Shadow’ was a warm album suggesting concepts of hope, ‘Ultraviolet’ is a bit colder and darker,” explains KYLESAsongwriter/guitar player Laura Pleasants. “All of our studio albums have their own unique identity and we’ve always been a band who strives for something different than what current fads suggest. With ‘Ultraviolet’, we took a step inward and wrote music that we felt we had to write; this album centers around the multiple themes of loss and you can feel it in the music. Everyone goes through it during their lifetime and this record reflects that experience.”

KYLESA issued a rarities collection in November titled “From The Vaults, Vol. 1”, which featured previously unreleased, new and alternate versions of songs spanning the band’s catalog as well as one new song titled “End Truth”Cope and Pleasants spent over a year going through their archives preparing the release.

Comments the band: “After 120 nights of iron will and ardent magic, the fifth full-length album of WATAIN is now complete.

With broken bones and burning hearts, we have ploughed our way through deepest winter into a new wilderness, to which we will open the gates at summer’s end.

Beware the rising star of dawn…”

SPIRITUAL BEGGARS: Another New Song Available For Streaming

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

“Kingmaker”, a brand new song from SPIRITUAL BEGGARS — the Swedish band featuring ARCH ENEMY guitarist Michael Amott and bassist Sharlee D’Angelo, along with vocalist Apollo Papathanasio(ex-FIREWIND) — can be streamed at this location. The song comes off the group’s eighth studio album, “Earth Blues”, which will be released on April 16 (one day earlier internationally) via InsideOut Music.

“Earth Blues” track listing

01. Wise As A Serpent
02. Turn The Tide
03. Sweet Magic Pain
04. Hello Sorrow
05. One Man’s Curse
06. Dreamer
07. Too Old To Die Young
08. Kingmaker
09. Road To Madness
10. Dead End Town
11. Freedom Song
12. Legends Collapse

The “Wise As A Serpent” video can be seen at this location.

Commented Amott: “We chose this particular song as the first video off‘Earth Blues’ ’cause it’s an explosive track and also the shortest song on the album! I filmed and directed the video myself and Anders Björler(AT THE GATES) did a great job on the edit. We’re more than pleased with the end result; it’s done in true DIY spirit…raw and authentic.”

Amott previously stated about the upcoming CD: “I had the idea for this artwork from my time as a child, seeing posters of two young lovers watching a romantic sunset on the beach — just your typical tacky bedroom art in the ’70s, really… Also, growing up in what is now referred to with some nostalgia as the Atomic Age — the threat of nuclear war was always looming over our heads it seemed. I wanted to combine these two images of my youth in one paradoxical image and Per Wiberg ofHippograffix (and SPIRITUAL BEGGARS keyboardist) really managed to capture the melancholic feeling perfectly. Earth Blues, indeed.”

Regarding the making of “Earth Blues”Amott said: “We started the recording process of ‘Earth Blues’ with an eight-day-long session at Fat Guitar Studios (Sweden) with knob-twiddler Roberth Ekholm, a truly great dude who really knows how to capture a band jamming live, sadly a rare quality in recording engineers nowadays! We continued with some overdubs at various studios in Sweden, and it’s all come together super easy this time. Sonically, I think this might be our finest hour yet. It’s a raw, heavy and honest record.”

In order to promote this upcoming release as well as the band’s anniversary, SPIRITUAL BEGGARS have confirmed a European tour for April with support by German rockers ZODIAC, as well as some European summer festivals.

SPIRITUAL BEGGARS 2013 is:

Michael Amott (ARCH ENEMY, CARCASS) – Guitar

DEMONICAL Parts Ways With Drummer, Guitarist

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Swedish death metallers DEMONICAL have parted ways with drummerFredrik Widigs and guitarist Johan Jansson due to “personal and priority-related matters.” The remaining members of the band write in a statement: “These decisions have been in the making for quite some time but now all parties consider them final and official. Both Johan andFredrik have been loyal soldiers and we thank them for their participation. However, rest assured, as the main songwriters are still in the band the mission, goal and outcome of DEMONICAL stays determined and intact.”

They add: “Currently we are looking to secure new members and we are hoping to present an updated lineup within the nearest future (applications are welcome, although we are already trying out a couple of potential candidates).

“We are soon rounding up the recordings of our fourth album, ‘Darkness Unbound’, at Necromorbus Studios in Stockholm but we have decided to postpone the release date to August in order to better match our upcoming live activities and anticipated world tour.”

Regarding the musical direction and visual presentation of “Darkness Unbound”DEMONICAL previously said: “The new material is clearly our most sinister, vicious and dark work up until to date and we are confident that ‘Darkness Unbound’ will be an important milestone not only for us as a band but also an album that will have a certain impact on the current death metal scene and especially the Swedish old-school wave.

“The artwork and visual concept of the album follows the same somber path as the music making it a solid entity of perpetual death metal darkness.”

DEMONICAL last year announced the addition of guitarist Daniel Gustavsson to the group’s ranks.

The band’s third album, “Death Infernal”, was released in April 2011 viaCyclone Empire.

Bassist Marcus Riewaldt last year announced his departure fromSUIDAKRA. He said in a statement, “After more than 250 shows and 10 years being in the band, I feel that now time has come to change my priorities a bit and see what else life has to offer for me. No hard feelings involved; it’s just that I cannot motivate myself for another writing-rehearsing-recording-promoting-touring cycle and that I’m really annoyed by some of the music business mechanisms that one has to deal with in order to continue this beautiful and exciting, but at the same time very time- and energy-consuming hobby. I wish SUIDAKRA much luck and success for the future — it would all be well deserved!”

SUIDAKRA has already secured a replacement bassist in Tim Siebrecht, who was a stand-in guitar player for SUIDAKRA on several occasions in recent years.

THE MOTH GATHERER Streaming New Album In Full

Unconventionally and emotionally sounding metal duo THE MOTH GATHERER have made their entire new album available for streaming prior to release date. The debut full-length entitled “A Bright Celestial Light” will hit the shops on CD and vinyl on the 16th of April worldwide via Agonia Records. It can now be listened to in full at the link below.

https://soundcloud.com/agoniarecords/the-moth-gatherer-full-album-stream

THE MOTH GATHERER is recommended for fans of music in the vein of NeurosisPelicanBreach or Cult of Luna“We just want our music to be an emotional explosion” – comments Alex, co-founder. “A lot of the songs is about death, missing people you loved who have passed away and losing hope in mankind. We want the music to make you feel like you can move mountains with it. I wish for that when people hear our recording, they start to dream away.”

Due to the non-one-dimensional approach towards the created songs, the band’s playing style is hard to label. While it’s moving on the verge of the Experimental/Progressive metal etiquette, at the same time it introduces emotional and doomy compositions. The debut offers up long and complex tracks, but still surprisingly simple and compelling, with an abundance of tempo changes and variations. The end result basks in an emotionally charged recording, progressive, yet filled with utterly melodic slower-sections, addictive enough to stimulate the imagination. ”Hypnotic, lusciously heavy and breathtaking” – Rock N Reel Reviews“You really should not miss this one” – Cvlt Nation.

Tracklist:

1. The Water That We All Come To Need
2. Intervention
3. A Road of Gravel and Skulls
4. The Womb, The Woe, The Woman
5. A Falling Deity

The band is: Alex Stjernfeldt and Victor Wegeborn – who both handle: guitars, bass, electronics, vocals and drums.

RIGOR MORTIS Completes Mixing Final Album

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Dallas, Texas-based producer/engineer/mixer Kerry Crafton has finished mixing the long-awaited fourth and final release from the legendary Texas thrash metal band RIGOR MORTIS. Entitled “Slaves To The Grave”, the CD was recorded at 13th Planet Studio in El Paso, Texas in February 2012.Mike Scaccia produced the sessions and MINISTRY frontman Al Jourgensen was the executive producer. Completion of the CD was delayed while Scaccia was on a European tour with the band MINISTRYand then by Scaccia’s sudden passing.

Scaccia brought the tracks back to Dallas to be mixed by longtime friend Crafton. Crafton engineered the first RIGOR MORTIS album, “Rigor Mortis”, for Capitol Records in 1988. Crafton was the producer, engineer and mixer on the third RIGOR MORTIS release for Triple X Records“Rigor Mortis vs The Earth”. He now closes out the RIGOR MORTIS legacy by mixing the band’s final CD.

Mixing began in December and Crafton and Scaccia had only one day together to begin the mixing process before the tragic onstage passing ofScaccia at the Rail Club in Ft. Worth while playing with RIGOR MORTIS.

Commented Crafton: “After Mikey died, it was very hard to open up the session and get back to mixing. I expected to have my buddy Mike with me as I did all the mixes. Instead, we had just one day together to set up basic tones and for him to explain what was what. It was a couple of weeks before I was able to begin again. When I got back to it, I found it both heartbreaking and cathartic. Though Mike was gone physically, I still was blessed with his musical presence every day as I soldiered on through the tears.

“This record is amazing. MikeBruce CorbittHarden Harrison andCasey Orr all performed brilliantly in the recording of this album and I believe they all did the best work of their lives. I feel very lucky to have had the chance to mix this project for such a great group of musicians and friends. The depth and breadth of the material is really awesome. This will, obviously, be the last project from RIGOR MORTIS, but it is a great final musical statement.”

The CD is currently being shopped to several interested labels and a release is expected this summer.

SEPULTURA Begins Writing New Album

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Brazilian/American thrashers SEPULTURA have commenced the songwriting process for their next album, tentatively due in late 2013 via Nuclear Blast Records.

Several photos from the first day of the writing sessions can be found atthis location.

SEPULTURA played its first show with drummer Eloy Casagrande(GLÓRIAANDRÉ MATOS) on November 25, 2011 in Lichtenfels, Germany.

Casagrande joined SEPULTURA as the replacement for Jean Dolabella, who left the band because he could no longer handle being away from home for long periods of time.

Eloy is a 21-year-old drum prodigy from São Paulo, Brazil who won theModern Drummer ”Undiscovered Drummer” contest as a teenager in 2006.

Asked what Casagrande has added to the band, SEPULTURA singerDerrick Green told Metal Hammer, “Definitely the fact that he’s young and that energy helps a lot. He’s a very disciplined drummer — he’s been playing since he was seven. And he’s been doing a lot of things by himself and playing with different people, and that’s really, really impressive. He had a lot of things put together before we even met him; he’s already done so much. And I think with us, a combination us together, it’s a great learning process for him to grow and at the same time, we’re learning a lot from him, so we can do this together. And this is something extremely important when you’re doing a band that’s been together for so long, to have this connection. And we felt this connection with him immediately. And we could tell that he was very focused and very committed to doing extremely good music.”

Dolabella left SEPULTURA after a five-year run of relentless touring and two studio albums. He joined SEPULTURA in 2006 following the departure of the band’s original drummer, Igor Cavalera.

SEPULTURA has spent most of the past year and half on tour in support of its 12th studio album, and Nuclear Blast Records debut, “Kairos”, which hit stores in July 2011.

According to THE MONOLITH DEATHCULT, the CD’s overall lyrical theme will be roughly the same as on “Trivmvirate” and “The White Crematorium” (2005). “But then again,” said guitarist/vocalist Michiel Dekker, “who cares about lyrical themes in death metal?”

As on “Trivmvirate”, producing duties and Pro Tools wizardry was done by Pascal Altena. Mixing duties were handled by Guido Aalbers.

DARK TRANQUILLITY Completes Recording New Album

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Swedish melodic death metallers DARK TRANQUILLITY have completed recording their tenth studio album, “Construct”, for a May 27 release viaCentury Media Records. The CD will be mixed by Jens Bogren(PARADISE LOSTOPETHKATATONIA) at his Fascination Streetstudios in Örebro, Sweden.

Commented the band: “Friends! Today is exactly three months before the release of the ‘Construct’, and it’s also the day on which the very last note of music for the album was recorded. After countless of hours in the studio, our work is finally 100% finished. We’ll now treat ourselves to some well needed rest and look forward to sharing more news with you in the near future.”

DARK TRANQUILLITY recently amicably parted ways with bassist Daniel Antonsson. According to the band, “Daniel wanted to focus on his own musical projects as well as working more in his recording studio. Being first and foremost a guitarist, he felt that the playing bass in a full-time band didn’t allow him much time for his main instrument and true passion. With this in mind, he chose to follow his heart and step aside at this point instead of committing to another album and an intense touring cycle that would leave little room for other activities.”

DARK TRANQUILLITY’s next live appearance is scheduled for April in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Some European summer festivals are already announced and the band is also working on a North American tour for September.

DARK TRANQUILLITY digitally released the “Zero Distance” EP on October 22, 2012 in North America. Taken from the European tour edition of “We Are The Void” (2010), the five tracks on the EP are a must-have for any diehard DARK TRANQUILLITY fan.

DARK TRANQUILLITY’s ninth CD, “We Are The Void”, sold around 2,100 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The effort landed at position No. 15 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

KYLESA: New Song Available For Streaming

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Savannah-based quintet KYLESA will release its new album,“Ultraviolet”, on May 24 in Europe and May 28 in North America viaSeason Of Mist. The follow-up to “Spiral Shadow” was recorded at The Jam Room in Columbia, South Carolina, with the band’s guitar player/songwriter and sought-after producer, Phillip Cope (BARONESS,BLACK TUSK), once again overseeing production.

“Unspoken”, a new song from the eleven-track album, is available now for streaming below.

KYLESA will return to the road in May, with more details forthcoming.

CARCASS: New Album Details Revealed

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Reactivated British extreme metal legends CARCASS have set “Surgical Steel” as the title of their first studio album in 17 years, to e released later this year via an as-yet-undetermined record label. The band’s first studio outing since 1996’s “Swansong” will be the first to feature new drummer Dan Wilding (ABORTEDTRIGGER THE BLOODSHED) and also features guest vocals from original sticksman Ken Owen. The CD was produced by Colin Richardson, who has previously worked with FEAR FACTORYMACHINE HEADNAPALM DEATHSLIPKNOT and BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE.

CARCASS guitarist Bill Steer tells U.K.’s Terrorizer magazine: “I found myself playing riffs that sounded like CARCASS. This was after the band had finished the whole reunion cycle of shows and festivals. So, officially, I would have been playing with other bands and stuff, but for some reason whenever I picked up a guitar at home I was coming up with riffs that sounded like CARCASS. I got on the phone to Jeff [Walker, bass/vocals] and said, ‘We could have a crack at writing a couple of tunes and seeing if they’re strong enough and take it from there.’ We also agreed if it didn’t sound like carcass or have that kind of vibe to it, we would just drop it. So that was the thing, we got together and started working on some stuff and just immediately got the excitement back very quickly.”

Adds Bill: “It definitely sounds like CARCASS. I think we just generally by accident captured the flavor of past music that we have done and you can’t help but push it forward. We have really been creative and when you are looking at things like guitar harmonies, it’s way more adventurous on this record. It’s not just parallel harmony like we did in the past, things branch off in different directions.

“A lot of what is happening now is based on rhythms rather than actual riffs. We were discussing this a lot during record sessions about how the riff is almost dying or dead already. People spend a lot of time chugging on the bottom string [but] that’s a rhythm, it’s not a riff. We can’t write a song, never mind an album, without it being choc-full of riffs.”

States Jeff Walker: “I’d like to feel like we are giving CARCASS fans what they want again. I’m a realist and I think Bill has realized and Dan know what people like about CARCASS. We’re definitely delivering.”

While the final track listing has yet to be confirmed, the following songs were recorded during the sessions:

The Master Butcher’s Apron
The Granulating Dark Satanic Mills
A Congealed Clot Of Blood
A Wraith In The Apparatus
316l Grade Surgical Steel
Cadaver Pouch Conveyor System
Captive Bolt Pistol
Intensive Battery Brooding
None Compliance To Astm F899-12 Standard
Mount Of Execution
1985/Thrasher’s Abattoir
Unfit For Human Consumption
Zochrot
Livestock Marketplace

Guitarist Michael Amott and drummer Daniel Erlandsson, who have been touring with CARCASS since the band’s reunion was announced in 2007, are no longer involved with the group due to scheduling conflicts with their main band, ARCH ENEMY. “For live, we’ll obviously add another guitarist — we have someone in mind but we are not interested in a ‘name’ player,”Walker told Decibel magazine in December.

Regarding the sound of the forthcoming CARCASS album, Walker stated: “We’ve taken stylistic cues from all the albums because it’s in our blood, but it’s no rehash or mess of ideas. I think it sounds almost like the missing link between the third and forth albums but with some groove in there. I’ve jokingly christened some parts ‘trad blast’ and some ‘death sleaze’… don’t think for a minute this is just some nostalgic throwback album — we’re setting up another 17 years of ideas for other bands to copy and clean up on. [laughs]”

Asked if this means we’ll be hearing some death metal vocals out of Bill for the first time since “Necroticism”Walker told Decibel, “Yes, already in the can. It’s more along the lines of how I envisioned him backing me up on ‘Heartwork’. That said, my own vocals have a hell of a lot more range than they did in the past solely down to the luxury of having time to record them — I did all the vox for ‘Heartwork’ in two days and it shows! Also, (hopefully) [drummer] Ken [Owen] [who is not involved in the band’s current reunion because he suffered a near-fatal brain hemorrhage in February 1999 and has had some rather serious health problems since then. — Ed.] will make an appearance — we just need to tidy a few loose ends before the mix.”

CARCASS is in the process of booking a number of live shows for 2013, including appearances at year’s Maryland Deathfest, Germany’sParty.San Open Air, Czech Republic’s Brutal Assault, U.K.’s Damnation, The Netherlands’ Neurotic Deathfest and Chile’s Metal Fest.

CARCASS’ last album, 1996’s “Swansong”, was re-released in July 2008 via Earache Records. The reissue came fully remastered on a DualDisc (combined CD and DVD) in a deluxe digipak with extra artwork and a free sticker sheet featuring exclusive CARCASS designs, and included part 5 of a mini-documentary series entitled “The Pathologist’s Report” as bonus video material, plus an exclusive bonus track, “Deathrider Da”.

SPIRITUAL BEGGARS: New Song Available For Streaming

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

SPIRITUAL BEGGARS — the Swedish band featuring ARCH ENEMYguitarist Michael Amott and bassist Sharlee D’Angelo, along with vocalist Apollo Papathanasio (ex-FIREWIND) — will release its eighth studio album, “Earth Blues”, on April 16 (one day earlier internationally) via InsideOut Music.

The first track released from the CD, “Turn The Tide”, can be streamed below.

Commented Amott: “I had the idea for this artwork from my time as a child, seeing posters of two young lovers watching a romantic sunset on the beach — just your typical tacky bedroom art in the ’70s, really… Also, growing up in what is now referred to with some nostalgia as the Atomic Age — the threat of nuclear war was always looming over our heads it seemed. I wanted to combine these two images of my youth in one paradoxical image and Per Wiberg of Hippograffix (and SPIRITUAL BEGGARS keyboardist) really managed to capture the melancholic feeling perfectly.

SPIRITUAL BEGGARS in 2011 released a live CD entitled “Return To Live: Loud Park 2010” in Japan via Trooper Entertainment. The follow-up to “Spiral Shadow” was recorded at The Jam Room in Columbia, South Carolina, with the band’s guitar player/songwriter and sought-after producer, Phillip Cope (BARONESS,BLACK TUSK), once again overseeing production.

“Unspoken”, a new song from the eleven-track album, is available now for people who subscribe to the Season Of Mist newsletter. Of course, if you already subscribed to the newsletter, you can still get the MP3. All you have to do is enter your email address in the widget at this location.

‘Epitome Of Torture’ features not only your typical SODOM fare, but also two or three numbers which are slightly more moderate and melodic than what people have come to expect from us,” says Angelripper, “so wait and see!”

08. Katjuscha (03:43)
09. Into The Skies Of War (03:51)

03. Epitome Of Torture (03:31)

Side 2

01. Stigmatized (02:56)
02. Cannibal (04:19)
03. Shoot Today – Kill Tomorrow (04:01)

LP 2

Side 1

01. Invocating The Demons (04:25)
02. Katjuscha (03:43)
03. Into The Skies Of War (03:51)

Side 2

01. Tracing The Victim (04:46)
02. Waterboarding (05:06) (bonus track)
03. Splitting The Atom (04:28) (bonus track)
04. Ace Of Spades (02:36) (bonus track)

“Katjuscha” has little to do with the same-named folk song by Mikhail Isakovsky, but is about the Russian rocket launcher which has been responsible for death and destruction thousandfold.

“The Katjuscha has been produced since World War II and is still used today,” the SODOM frontman explains. “It’s been responsible for the death of more people than Stalin’s organ. To name such a deadly weapon after a girl is as grotesque as giving the atom bomb dropped on Hiroshima the code name ‘Little Boy’.”

It’s obvious that SODOM hasn’t changed its scornful view of the world, presenting an album in “Epitome Of Torture” that is as uncompromising as ever in musical as well as lyrical terms.

“Unfortunately, there’s still plenty of inspiration for angry lyrics around,” says Angelripper. The bitter thrash metal attack “Waterboarding”, which deals with torture methods, fits perfectly into this context.

“It always surprises me how inventive — in the most negative sense of the word — people can be when it comes to torturing others,” states the vocalist. “At the same time, ‘Epitome Of Torture’ features not only typical SODOM numbers, like the title track, our new hit ’S.O.D.O.M.’ and‘Stigmatized’, the toughest SODOM number in ages, but also two or three recordings which are slightly more moderate and melodic than what people have come to expect from us.” Angelripper is referring to songs such as “Cannibal” and “Tracing The Victim”, which allow Bernemannto present his impressive musical skills, as well as “Into The Skies Of War”, on which Angelripper allowed himself to be inspired by icons such asMOTÖRHEAD and TANK. “Luckily, it’s impossible to hide my influences,” he says.

“Epitome Of Torture” was produced by Waldemar Sorychta (GRIP INC.ENEMY OF THE SUN), whose expertise as a sound engineer and audio magician thoroughly enhanced SODOM’s previous CD, 2010’s “In War And Pieces”Angelripper says: “Waldemar is a true authority. He doesn’t let you get away with anything, he knows all our weak spots. Which occasionally makes working at the studio a little demanding, but at the end of the day, it’s all worthwhile, as the result shows.” The SODOMfrontman describes the sound on “Epitome Of Torture” as “hard as nails and contemporary, without ignoring our tried-and-tested old-school attitude.”

“Epitome Of Torture” will be available in four different formats: a limited-edition digipak, including two bonus tracks and a poster; regular jewel case; as a double gatefold vinyl, including three bonus tracks; and as a digital download. The cover artwork featuring SODOM’s popular “Knarrenheinz” logo was developed by graphic designer Meran Karanitant, who has previously worked with SIX FEET UNDERHATEBREED andDIMMU BORGIR, among others.

SODOM will film a video for the song “Stigmatized” later this month withRoax Media (SODOM’s “Lords Of Depravity” volumes 1 and 2,VOLBEATTHE MOB RULES) in Berlin.

SODOM haven’t had an official video clip for some time, so it’s about time we did one,” says Angelripper. “That’s why the mini film will be uncompromising, a shocking clip which our fans can look forward to!”

SODOM’s latest CD, “In War And Pieces”, entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 64.

SODOM in 2010 parted ways with drummer Bobby Schottkowski due to “personal and private problems between Tom and Bobby,” according to a statement released by the band.

SODOM’s current drummer, Markus Freiwald, previously played for the German bands DESPAIR and FLAMING ANGER and was involved with theVOODOOCULT project. In addition, he played percussion as a session musician on the MOONSPELL album “Irreligious” and is featured on the 1996 LP “Triarchy Of The Lost Lovers” by Greek extreme metallersROTTING CHRIST.
