Only by letting go of those illusions and tearing down the walls of ignorance and fear that society, religion and every form of dysfunctional authority you interjected during your life, can you start to rebuild your own path as a free man that has no need for a king.”

GORGUTS Parts Ways With Drummer JOHN LONGSTRETH
Reposted from Blabbermouth.net
Guitarist/vocalist Luc Lemay of Canadian technical death metallers GORGUTS has released the following statement:
“I’m writing today to share with you that we will now have a new drummer sitting behind the kit for GORGUTS. Unfortunately, John [Longstreth] won’t be playing with us anymore.
“When I first asked John, Colin [Marston, bass] and Kevin [Hufnagel, guitar] to join me to be part of GORGUTS, rule number one, for me, has always been that each of their respective bands and solo career would always come first.
“John, having a very busy touring schedule with ORIGIN, brought Patrice Hamelin in the picture to replace him on more than several occasions. This being said, I was not going to get a replacement for each players. Then, as tour offers came in, we ended up playing more shows with Patrice than John. Seeing the new ORIGIN record coming along and being released this year, John is also developing his solo career with drum clinics; I was apprehending the complexity of orchestrating schedules for future GORGUTS tours. Having a very busy schedule planed for 2014 already, thing would eventually get impossible to work out.
“As far as Patrice being in demand with a lot of different projects, I could have ended up with no drummer available at all to push GORGUTS. Patrice and I living close to each other, we can work on music together on a weekly basis and that’s an important factor for me as well. John and I shared on this way before our December tour in 2013 and I really insisted that he played that tour with us since he was part of ‘Colored Sands’ since the very beginning and I wanted to perform the record live with the original lineup.
“All I can say is that I had a great experience playing and making a record with John. He’s a very creative, curious, polyvalent player and a great person to be around. I will miss our long conversations while driving to New York City to Colin‘s place.
“It’s not a question of personality or whatsoever; it’s a question of each of us pushing our individual goals and plans as artists. I want to whish him all the best and in the end, what’s most important for me, is when we’ll see each other in 5, 10 or 20 years, we won’t be talking about not doing a tour together in 2014… we will talk about our friendship through music and how happy and proud we are of having made a wonderful record together.”
Commented John: “I will not be joining GORGUTS on the upcoming tours. Luc Lemay has decided to take out Patrice Hamelin for all dates in 2014. I can’t say I am not disappointed, but I respect his decision and it allows me to concentrate on ORIGIN, the [instructional] DVD, other projects and future drum clinics/workshops. I am very happy to say that some GORGUTS material will be included on my upcoming DVD.”
GORGUTS‘ fifth album, “Colored Sands”, was released on August 30, 2013 in Europe and September 3, 2013 in North America via Season Of Mist. The CD was made available will be available as a digipak CD limited to the first pressing, regular black LP, transparent clear LP and red/yellow colored LP.
GORGUTS will join forces with CARCASS, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER and NOISEM for Decibel magazine’s third cross-country domination, set to take place this spring.

VALLENFYRE: ‘Splinters’ Album Artwork Unveiled
Reposted from Blabbermouth.net
VALLENFYRE, the U.K. death metal band featuring Gregor Mackintosh, songwriter and guitarist of PARADISE LOST, alongside members of MY DYING BRIDE, AT THE GATES and DOOM, will release its second full-length album, “Splinters”, on May 12 in Europe and on May 13 in North America via Century Media Records. The CD’s simple-yet-striking cover artwork was created by Brian D’Agosta, who previously drew a logo for VALLENFYRE bassist Scoot‘s other band, EXTINCTION OF MANKIND, as well as artwork for many other bands.
For a first preview of “Splinters”, a video trailer featuring part of the album’s opening track, “Scabs”, can be viewed at this location.
In 2011, Mackintosh announced that he would go back to his death metal roots with his new band, VALLENFYRE. The level of expectation was set high with a lineup consisting of Hamish Glencross (guitar; MY DYING BRIDE), Scoot (bass; DOOM, EXTINCTION OF MANKIND), Adrian Erlandsson (drums; AT THE GATES, PARADISE LOST, THE HAUNTED) local friend Mully (second guitar) — and, of course, Gregor on vocals (for the first time in his career!). Their debut, “A Fragile King”, was a reference to Gregor‘s father’s (lost) battle with cancer; the harrowing, crusty death-doom found on the album was hailed as “a beast of a record” (Terrorizer) and “a sonic force that bites deep and hard” (Decibel). Simply put, “A Fragile King” is “old school to the bone” (Rock Hard).
“VALLENFYRE was something I felt utterly compelled to do,” Mackintosh said. “It was almost like I didn’t have a choice.
“I was told by a bereavement counselor that I should write down and vocalize my feelings. I did just that and then everything just seemed to take a natural course.”
In addition to being the main songwriter in PARADISE LOST, Greg stepped up to being the frontman for VALLENFYRE and sang for the first time, citing Karl Willetts (BOLT THROWER), Chuck Schuldiner (DEATH), Oscar Garcia (NAUSEA, TERRORIZER), Peter Steele (CARNIVORE, TYPE O NEGATIVE) as influences. “A Fragile King” turned out to be a heartfelt, cathartic and therapeutic release, which now finds it continuation on the even more abrasive and extreme second full-length, “Splinters”.
Inspired by the likes of HELLHAMMER/CELTIC FROST, AUTOPSY, ANTISECT, DISCHARGE, NIHILIST, early NAPALM DEATH, early BATHORY and CONFLICT, VALLENFYRE digs deep into the roots of extreme music, yet due to Greg‘s infallible songwriting skills, as well as the organic and absolutely crushing sound courtesy of Kurt Ballou (CONVERGE, BLACK BREATH, BEASTMILK), “Splinters” is far away from mere nostalgia.
Stay tuned for a full stream of “Splinters”‘ first single, “Scabs”, coming soon.

Hamish Glencross (MY DYING BRIDE) – Guitar

INCANTATION Parts Ways With Guitarist ALEX BOUKS
Reposted from Blabbermouth.net
Death metal veterans INCANTATION have announced the departure of longtime guitarist Alex Bouks. The band states: “Over the last few years, there have been some rough waters that we have all been navigating. A hiatus is more desired, thinking this is the best thing to do to save the magic that we have all worked together on.
“With respect, we wish only the best to Alex and his work outside the band. He is truly an amazing musician and we are happy to have worked with him.”
INCANTATION‘s latest album, “Vanquish In Vengeance”, is out on Listenable Records. The band’s follow-up to 2006’s “Primordial Domination” features over 50 minutes of the band’s trademark dark and unholy death metal. Recorded at the Mars Recording Compound with engineer Bill Korecky and mixed and mastered by Dan Swanö (EDGE OF SANITY, BLOODBATH, NIGHTINGALE) at Unisound studios in Örebro, Sweden, the CD deals with the numerous counts of genocide in the name of religion our society has witnessed over a millennia.
“Vanquish In Vengeance” was also made available in a limited-edition box featuring a flag and an exclusive metal pin.
Although based in Pennsylvania, INCANTATION has enjoyed a 25-year musical career as one of the leaders the New York death metal scene along with SUFFOCATION, IMMOLATION and MORTICIAN.
INCANTATION and Listenable Records‘ working relationship resulted in “Decimate Christendom” (2004) and “Primordial Domination” (2006) albums.
