After the unfortunate demise of Trondr Nefas, I thought that Endezzma‘s Erotik Nekrosis would be the last that I hear of his works. But Urgehal and Season of Mist this year surprised me with a brand new Urgehal record. Despite having lost much touch with the extreme metal genres, I decided to just have a listen to Aeons in Sodom without putting much thought into the background of the album.

Formed back in 2009, American black/thrash metal band Frosthelm this year finally releases their debut full length album, The Endless Winter. It’s been quite a long while since my last black/thrash metal madness, so with all the hype surrounding The Endless Winter, I have to say that I was pretty excited to hear what Frosthelm manages to come up with after a wait of almost 6 years.

Album Review: Hellvetic Frost – Towards a Distant World

Hellvetic Frost - Toward a Distant World

Hellvetic Frost [Switzerland]
Towards a Distant World

Black Metal

With my recent encounter with Swiss bands, ranging from the cold and bleak Enoid to the more aggressive and oppressive Nihilo, my impression of bands out of the region has certainly skyrocketed. Hellvetic Frost is my latest discovery, and although Towards a Distant World is the band’s post-mortem release – the band disbanded in 2010 – they manage to impress me with the coldness and desolation that is contained on the album.

Kicking off the album with the ambient and almost doom-paced Einklang, the band sets the mood and the tone for the album, and seasoned fans of the genre will know what to expect for what’s to come on the rest of the album. Things get kicked up a notch soon enough with Zwang, and the rather raw and warm sound despite the heavy trem-picking utilised by guitarists Pagan Warrior and Grim, along with the heavy emphasis on the atmosphere, easily remind one of the earlier material of bands such as Darkthrone to even that of Finnish bands like Horna and Satanic Warmaster. This particularly so on tracks like Towards a Distant World, where the riffs of the band even evoke some sense of desperation within the listener.

At the same time, there is that slight pagan touch that is present throughout the album. Combined with the grimness emanated from Hellvetic Frost‘s outlook, there are even moments where one is reminded of the works of Bathory, like on Under the Sign of the Black Mark or Blood Fire Death.

Honestly, with the quality of the material on Towards a Distant World, it is indeed a shame that Hellvetic Frost was put to rest so quickly before gaining any form of recognition for their proficiency in the genre.

DARKTHRONE: ‘Black Death And Beyond’ Vinyl Box Set Due In May

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Norwegian black metal veterans DARKTHRONE will release “Black Death And Beyond” on May 12 via Peaceville Records. It is a special collector’s box-set featuring an in-depth book containing extensive accounts of the band’s history and philosophy from both Gylve “Fenriz” Nagell and Ted “Nocturno Culto” Skjellum, as well as additional recollections from bass player Dag Nilsen. Numerous other artists and friends along the way give their thoughts on the legends too, plus the book contains a large amount of personal photos from the band archive. Also included are three vinyls featuring DARKTHRONE‘s own choice cuts from their illustrious collection of death, black, metal and punk classics, presented on white, black and transparent vinyl, plus woven DARKTHRONE patch. All pre-orders of “Black Death And Beyond” also come with a signed certificate from the band.

Fenriz explains the concept behind the track selections: “I never quit my day job; one of the reasons being that I can listen to music on headphones there all the time. To the extent that I rarely listen to music at home anymore, and if I do, it’s like I can’t hear it properly. At work with headphones is where the details reveal themselves and also which songs I can and can’t use in compilations or DJing appear quite clearly.

“Every time I get/buy a cassette or vinyl, I have to transfer them to WAV files via a computer program, then I write a little note to accompany the final burnt disc. But the note first swings by my workplace where I can rate the various songs with a clever underlining system called The Fenrizolator. And so pass the days.

“Then came the idea to do a DARKTHRONE book and with it a vast box set. There was talk about three compilation discs, one with Death, one with Black and one with our other styles. So be it. But this time I took it upon myself do it properly. And to do that… well, I had to face my own rating system. Because I also use the F-olator on regular CDs, it took three whole days to rate all of our 16 full-length albums. Certain discoveries were made, like the song I think is worst by DARKTHRONE is ‘Hans Siste Vinter’ (scoring only 12 out of 60 points) and also that ‘The Cult Is Alive’ is probably our best album — at least it’s the one with the highest grades consistently. But I digress. Aggressive digressor!!! Lists were made, and I truly tried to be as honest and fair as possible. Ted was initially going to do this but I think he suddenly saw how monumental a task it would be, and ended up with — well, what you hold in your hands right now. My ‘best oF’ trying to follow both my biased ratings, crystal logic and also personal favorites and my fave Ted songs.”

This edition of “Black Death And Beyond” is strictly limited to a single vinyl pressing. Once it’s sold out, it will not be re-pressed.

DARKTHRONE: ‘Lesser Men’ Video Released

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

“Lesser Men”, the new Lowe Seger-directed video from Norwegian black metal veterans DARKTHRONE, can be seen at this location. The track comoes off the band’s latest album, “The Underground Resistance”, which was released on February 26 via Peaceville Records.

“The Underground Resistance” is DARKTHRONE’s latest venture through the metal cosmos, and first new album since the 2010 opus,“Circle The Wagons”. It contains DARKTHRONE’s trademark masterful riffing in a broad range of styles, effortlessly bounding through the annals of classic metal, taking in thrash, speed and black metal, and not forgetting a dose of punk. All in all, a ferocious and dynamic set of tracks drenched in Fenriz’s and Nocturno’s rich and diverse tastes in all things metal, primarily those rooted firmly in the spirit of the ’80s. Six tracks long, and each one an epic in itself, this is undoubtedly DARKTHRONE’s strongest outing of late.

“The Underground Resistance” was written and recorded spring 2010 to summer 2012 at Necrohell 2 studios by the bandmembers themselves. The CD was mastered by Jack Control at Enormous Door in Texas. The cover artwork comes courtesy of the iconic and celebrated artist Jim Fitzpatrick.

Commented Fenriz: “Three songs each, Ted’s are flown from the universe of metal with his strongest voice ever so far. Songs of mine are torn from the wombs of the riders of rohan of metal, safely cradled in 1985 style.”

In an interview with Terrorizer magazine DARKTHRONEguitarist/vocalist Nocturno Culto stated about the band’s new CD: “I can’t speak for Fenriz, but I think he’s going for more epic lyrics. I can only speak for myself and this time around they are very personal lyrics. It’s the first time I’ve ever tried this and it’s difficult to do it nicely and put it into good words. There was a lot of hate and people trying to ruin your day and I had stuff to say for my sake.”

He added: “Our music now is basically just metal. It [is] a step away from the last album as usual.”

AMORPHIS: New Album Title, Concept And Release Date Revealed

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Finnish melancholic dark metal forerunners AMORPHIS have set “Circle” as the title of their eleventh album, due on April 19 via Nuclear Blast Records. Production and mixing duties for the follow-up to 2011’s “The Beginning Of Times” were handled by HYPOCRISY and PAIN mastermind Peter Tägtgren, who has previously worked with such bands as CHILDREN OF BODOM, CELTIC FROST, IMMORTAL and DIMMU BORGIR. The recordings took place at Petrax Studio (NIGHTWISH, CHILDREN OF BODOM, KORPIKLAANI) in Hollola and 5K Studios in Helsinki.

A short summary about the album’s concept/story that spreads throught out the lyrics by Pekka Kainulainen, who wrote the lyrics for most recent AMORPHIS albums: “The protagonist has been dealt a bad hand at birth. He’s always felt himself an outsider with strong potential to become marginalized. Through an accident, after a crisis, he finds a connection with his inner powers. A guide is sent to him, from some other time and place. He gets a chance to take hold of his own life and change his destiny. From the past of Carelian Finland he finds his own spiritual tribe and the power to turn the course of his doomed life. This is a story of survival.”

AMORPHIS singer Tomi Joutsen adds about the album title: “‘Circle’ represents integrity. Back in the days, when there was something special to talk about, wise men used to sit in circle. Not everyone was invited to join them. But in this story, the protagonist was invited among the wise men’s circle.”

Fan-filmed video footage of AMORPHIS performing a brand new song — tentatively titled “Mehtä” (English-language translation: “The Forest”) — on December 14, 2012 at Klubi in Turku, Finland can be seen below.

Regarding the band’s decision to perform a brand new track during their Finnish tour, Tomi said: “We just wanted to try how it worked, and it went [over] really well.

“We don’t want to play too many [new] songs, because people are recording [the shows with their phone cameras] and [posting] it on the Internet, and we don’t wanna spoil the album [for everyone].

“I was really nervous, of course, when we played it the first time, but it went over great. I think it’s gonna be an awesome live song.”

Regarding the direction of the new AMORPHIS material, the band’s guitarist and founding member Esa Holopainen said: “While promoting ‘The Beginning Of Times’, we started to feel that we were giving the same explanations over and over again when people asked about the studio process and how the songs came about. Even though the music was very strong, the making process didn’t offer any surprises and appeared to be quite secured. Now the addition of a new dimension to the developing process has inspired us to focus on our material even more. The songs are extremely strong, bombastic and skull-pummelling.”

“The Beginning Of Times” entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 16 — the best chart position ever scored by an AMORPHIS album in that country. The CD also landed at position No. 1 on the Finnish chart.image

OUT NOW! Joel Grind’s The YELLOWGOAT Sessions – Name Your Own Price

Joel Grind’s The YELLOWGOAT Sessions full-length is now available on iTunes, Bandcamp and Nimbits with Spotify, Amazon, MOG, etc. soon to follow.

Recorded as a Toxic Holocaust return-to-form of sorts (think the Critical Mass demo), The YELLOWGOAT Sessions features 10- tracks of raw, abrasive fuzzed out rock /metal /punk a la early Bathory and Motörhead. Comments Grind: “If you are looking for over produced shit that passes as Metal today this is NOT for you.”

Like first single “Cross Damnation,” the album is now available as a “name your own price” release with a suggested donation of $5 allowing fans to pay whatever they feel like paying… or pay nothing at all.

Grind elaborates: “Making a recording is far from free; your donation of any size goes toward supporting an independent artist and allows projects like this to continue. In my opinion, music being released direct from the artist to the fan with no middle men is the future. With your support of this project as well as similar ones from other artists, I think we can make a serious change in the way the music ‘biz’ is run.”

Preorders for the LP, as well as a limited edition bundle that includes the LP, T-shirt and a bonus track are available at the links below.

ENSLAVED Working On Concert DVD

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Norwegian progressive extreme metallers ENSLAVED have issued the following update:

“We started the process of making a new live DVD. Or perhaps ‘concert movie’ would be a more appropriate title for this undergoing. We’ve gone to some lengths to keep this under wraps for as long as possible; and now we’re more or less ready to go.

“We will record two full sets containing material from all our releases. There will be a total of 24 songs (matching the number of the Futhark, by the way-ish), including some very special and long asked-for treats for our fans. There will be glimpses into the world of ENSLAVED between the songs that will help create a unique musical experience caught on film.

“The site of the recording is ABC Studios in Etne, appropriately located in the house of the old school…”

ENSLAVED will return to the U.S. and Canada in early 2013 for a 20-date headlining “Winter Rite” tour with support from U.S. doom metallers PALLBEARER and occult rockers ANCIENT VVISDOM. Kick-off is in Philadelphia on January 30, with the tour closing in New York City on February 22.

ENSLAVED’s twelfth studio album, “RIITIIR”, sold around 2,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 8 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

The band’s previous album, “Axioma Ethica Odini”, opened with 1,400 units back in September 2010 to debut at No. 16 on the Top New Artist Albums chart.

ENSLAVED will headline Scion AV’s Label Showcase, featuring Roadburn Records, with additional appearances by WHITE HILLS, Scott Kelly of NEUROSIS, EARTHLESS and ASTRA. The event takes place on November 10 at the Roxy in West Hollywood, California. The concert is free with RSVP atwww.scionav.com/metalshow.

GHOST Putting Finishing Touches On Sophomore Album

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Mysterious Swedish buzz band GHOST will play a special a concert this Saturday, December 15 in their hometown of Linköping at Cupolen. Limited tickets are still available here. Also this Saturday for those seeking redemption, GHOST cult leader Papa Emeritus (rumored to be REPUGNANT/SUBVISION’s Tobias Forge, who takes the stage in the form of “a satanic pope”) will bestow a special offering to those who sign up with their e-mail addresses beginning at 10 p.m. local time.

GHOST is putting the finishing touches its next studio album, due out in 2013 on Loma Vista Recordings, the new record label founded by Tom Whalley in partnership with Republic Records, a division of Universal Music Group. Papa and his Nameless Ghouls have summoned Nashville-based Grammy Award-winning Nick Raskulinecz (DEATH ANGEL, DEFTONES, FOO FIGHTERS, RUSH) to produce this offering.

GHOST’s debut album, “Opus Eponymous”, was released in late 2010 in Europe and in early 2011 in North America via Rise Above Records.

In an early 2012 interview with Full Metal Jackie’s nationally syndicated radio show, one of the “Nameless Ghouls” from GHOST was asked why he thinks his band has garnered support from such high-profile musicians as James Hetfield (METALLICA) and Phil Anselmo (DOWN, PANTERA). “We like to think [it’s because of] our playfulness in terms of not — I almost said think[ing] too much — obviously, we think, but we feel a lot and we try not to limit ourselves to genre,” he said. “Even though we’re a hard-rocking band, we try to mix everything from death metal elements to new-wave choruses. And I think that sort of resonates to… I wouldn’t say only an older generation [because] we have a lot of new, younger fans, but I think that anybody who is older than 35 might have a stroke of nostalgia or whatever.”

On the topic of whether he can foresee a day when the members of GHOST won’t be anonymous anymore, he said, “I think there is a difference between being anonymous and unmasked. Where SLIPKNOT actually wear masks still, while KISS during their unmasked days didn’t. Obviously, it’s a thing of the times. What we’re trying to do, it’s very hard to maintain. If the actual goal was to not be known, we try to maintain that, but in the long run we can’t really expect that to be something everlasting. Most of our fans are actually quite keen on not knowing, which works to our favor, but I think there is a difference between people knowing who is behind the mask or being unmasked. We can’t really see ourselves going up on stage and afterwards just dropping the masks saying, ‘Oh, it’s me, it’s me, actually. Can you see?’ No, no, no… We don’t want that. We don’t want to spoil it. That’s the whole reason why we are anonymous and we try not to show ourselves. We try to eliminate, not the human aspects, but the humane aspects, if you want. We want to put Papa Emeritus in the limelight. He’s supposed to be the living character, even though rigor mortis has basically set in in his poor old body. But that’s the face of the band. He’s the person, everybody else are just puppets.”

Regarding GHOST’s future plans, he said, “These 18 months since we released the album has been a lot of touring. We play a lot of concerts and our goal has always been to put on a show that was way more theatrical than we have had the opportunity to, sort of, perform or display in this type of touring. Even though this is a tour where we’re actually allowed to flex our muscles a little bit, you can’t expect to have a production. We have our windows, we have a few things, but I’d say that our short-term goal, for now, when we have a new album out, will be to start bringing forth a way more theatrical show that will be a lot more intriguing with a few magic tricks.”

HOUR OF 13: ‘Who’s To Blame?’ Video Released

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

“Who’s To Blame?”, the new video from U.S. East Coast doom metallers HOUR OF 13, can be seen below. The clip was filmed in Waterbury, Connecticut with director Eric Schrader.

Commented HOUR OF 13 frontman Phil Swanson: “Making a video for some reason has always been a personal goal — maybe it’s my interest in film that brings that on — and thankfully Earache has allowed me to finally fulfil that dream.

“I’ve known our director, Eric Schrader, for almost fifteen years when I met him working in the local video store. We would talk ‘B’ movies and underground music until one day he shared one of his own movies, a crudely written script with fake moustaches and plastic guns, yet the editing was unbelievably professional. Eventually, he started making his own ‘B’ films, one of which my daughter had a small role in. So whenever I thought video, I thought of Eric. I’m happy to have the chance to work with him as he is now becoming a seasoned pro on his way to L.A. and we were lucky enough to catch him before he left.

“For the concept, Eric and I shared some initial ideas until he took hold and pieced it all together, finding the perfect location chock-full of bums, broken bottles and bats. Eric did his magic in the editing room and turned it all into something brilliant. We needed some bodies on bass and drums, so I invited Jason Tarpey and Arthur Rizk to join us, as they were slated at one time to be the U.S. live lineup. It was an amazing night, good times had and Eric’s crew was great company.

“For me, making this video was as rewarding as making the record. I hope everyone enjoys watching it as much as we did making it!”

HOUR OF 13’s latest album, “333”, is available now worldwide.

KRISIUN: ‘The Will To Potency’ Video Released

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

“The Will To Potency”, the new video from Brazilian death metal veteransKRISIUN, can be seen below.

Commented the director and producer of the video, Tommy Jones: “The band had originally contacted me to do a live video on the ‘Conquerors of the World Tour’. We filmed every night live. However, the day before the last show of the tour, we had a day off on a drive through New Mexico towards the last show in Texas.

“I had the idea of filming the band out in the middle of the desert because I love that area and always wanted to do a desert shoot. So I convinced the driver to pull over in the middle of nowhere at 9 a.m. We filmed for about two and a half hours out there, using a laptop as audio playback. We caught the attention of the Mexican border patrol who came to check out what we were doing. They sent about three SUVs out to check us out. Once they made sure we weren’t doing anything ‘too illegal,’ they got a kick out of it and were taking pictures on their iPhones because they said in all their years, they haven’t seen a band set up in the middle of the desert.

“When it was all said and done, we filmed every night on tour, but it ended up that the majority of the video was filmed on that day off in the middle of the New Mexican desert in about 2.5 hours.

“It was a fun video, and I’m glad we got to do it this way, we all are really stoked how the desert stuff came out.”

“The Will To Potency” comes off KRISIUN‘s latest album, “The Great Execution”, which was released on October 31, 2011 in Europe and November 1, 2011 in North America via Century Media Records. The band’s eighth studio CD “musically expands KRISIUN trademark high-speed death metal violence with a heavily increased amount of diversity ranging from extreme tempo variations over distinct rhythm patterns to clean guitars and even Flamenco parts!” according to a press release.

KRISIUN only used analog gear and instruments this time to avoid the compressed sound that so many musicians produce today. This wise decision resulted in a more organic sound, with the songs on “The Great Execution” possessing both warmth and rawness, which are so often lost through digital production. The low end is deeper, with drums that pound instead of bounce and guitar tones that sear rather than hiss.

Going back to Stage One Studio in Germany and working with producerAndy Classen again was the right choice: the album came out with a very distinctive and natural sound, shattering the boundaries of the style once more.

The cover artwork was created by Japanese artist Toshihiro Egawa who has been doing tons of great designs for acts like SUICIDE SILENCE,HEAVEN SHALL BURNDEVOURMENT and DYING FETUS, among others.

“The Great Execution” was made available as a limited-edition digipack including a re-recorded version of the classic KRISIUN song “Black Force Domain” as a bonus track, as a 180-gram gatefold vinyl and as a digital download.

Classen previously worked with KRISIUN on the “Conquerors Of Armageddon” (1999), “AssasiNation” (2005) and “Southern Storm”(2008) releases.

OMNIUM GATHERUM: New Album Details Revealed

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Finnish melodic death metallers OMNIUM GATHERUM have set “Beyond” as the title of their new album, due on February 25 in Europe and March 5 in North America via Lifeforce Records. The CD was recorded by Teemu Aalto and mixed and mastered once again by Dan Swanö. The artwork for the follow-up to 2011’s “New World Shadows” was created by Olli Lappalainen and can be seen below.

“Beyond” track listing:

01. Luoto
02. New Dynamic
03. In The Rim
04. Nightwalkers
05. Formidable
06. The Sonic Sign
07. Who Could Say
08. The Unknowing
09. Living In Me
10. White Palace

Commented OMNIUM GATHERUM guitarist Markus Vanhala: “It’s now been approximately 10 years since our debut full-length album, ‘Spirits And August Light’, was released and the world was waiting. The latest 2011 album, ‘New World Shadows’, was a good breakthrough for us and lots of good things happened after that record, so, of course, we had some pressures to do a decent successor for that great record as the world was waiting again.

“Well, I think we managed on mastering that task and now we’re back again with the OMNIUM GATHERUM’s sixth album called ‘Beyond’, the album that is really going beyond all limits of melodic death metal from the winter wonderland! The album follows the good known path of ‘New World Shadows’ and ‘The Redshift’, but adds a lot of new flavors and spices to the good ol’ melting pot to lift the band to a new heights. It’s our most melodic and versatile album so far, but at the same time, it still holds for example the most brutal death metal growls in our career yet as also some really tasteful clean vocals between the lines. I’m sure everyone who gives the album many spins can find something new with every turn, so this should be a album that hold up the sands of time and rewards the listeners who are digging deeper and searching something more than just a one hit wonders of the day!

“Lyrically told, ‘Beyond’ is about the culmination point of one’s existence. It is a coming-home story where the mysteries of duality are melted into oneness but without losing one single point of individuality along the arrival.

“As you can see from the cover, there’s also a strong sense of sea on the album, as we’re the sons of the sea from Kotka!”

OMNIUM GATHERUM recently announced the addition of bassist Erkki Silvennoinen to the group’s ranks.

“New World Shadows” entered the official chart in Finland at position No. 5. This marked the highest chart entry in the group’s history, having previously landed at No. 24 with 2008’s “The Redshift” and No. 31 with 2007’s “Stuck Here On Snakes Way”.

DARKTHRONE To Release ‘The Underground Resistance’ In February

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Norwegian black metal veterans DARKTHRONE will release their new studio album, “The Underground Resistance”, on February 25, 2013 via Peaceville Records.

In a recent interview with Terrorizer magazine DARKTHRONE guitarist/vocalist Nocturno Culto stated about the band’s new CD: “I can’t speak for Fenriz, but I think he’s going for more epic lyrics.

It will be a step away from the last album as usual.”

DARKTHRONE’s last album, “Circle The Wagons”, sold around 500 copies in the United States in its first week of release back in April 2010. The CD landed at position No. 120 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

DARKTHRONE: ‘A Blaze In The Northern Sky’ 20th-Anniversary Edition Coming In November

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

DARKTHRONE began in the late ’80s as a thrash/death metal act and progressed through technical death/doom metal experimentation to become legends of the black metal world and one of the original leading bands of the Norwegian scene, as well as inspiring a whole generation of metal bands.

“A Blaze In The Northern Sky”, DARKTHRONE’s second album, was originally released in 1992 and was without question the blueprint release for the black metal scene, spearheading the evolution of the early second wave movement in Norway and beyond. It was hailed on release as an album of true scene-shifting greatness, following their more death metal-centered debut, “Soulside Journey”.

The album saw a whole new blacker than black DARKTHRONE, new names, new cold and stripped down sound and highly visual black and white artwork. Fenriz claimed at the time, “This is the new DARKTHRONE. The old DARKTHRONE is dead.” So great was the hunger and need for DARKTHRONE that it meant absolutely nothing to critics and fans alike that the band hardly ventured out to play live. On the contrary, this only added to the mystique of the band, and saw them, in the eyes of the fans as very much “keeping it real” with their completely uncompromising approach.

Due on November 5 via Peaceville, this special edition of “A Blaze In The Northern Sky” marks 20 years since the album’s original release, and contains an additional CD featuring Fenriz talking about his memories and recollections of the album’s construction as the music plays in the background. This edition is also presented in digibook format with extra liner notes from Fenriz and Nocturno Culto, plus rare and previously unseen images. Also contains video interview with Nocturno and Fenriz from 2003.

Disc 1

01. Kathaarian Life Code
02. In The Shadow Of The Horns
03. Paragon Belial
04. Where The Cold Winds Blow
05. A Blaze In The Northern Sky
06. The Pagan Winter
* Video interview with Nocturno and Fenriz

Disc 2

* Same as above tracks, but with commentary from Fenriz

DRACONIAN Announces New Singer

Reposted from Blabbermouth.net

Swedish doom metal band DRACONIAN has issued the following update:

“It has been nearly a year since last we braced the stages and said our goodbyes to [singer] Lisa [Johansson]. We had no intent of collecting dust and taking up old man’s hobbies, so we set out to find a new female singer. For a band such as DRACONIAN, this is no easy task and quite possibly the reason it has taken what seems to be ages. We thank our friends and fans greatly for their patience and a great thanks to everyone who took the time to apply for the position. We rifled through more than a hundred applications from countries far and wide and ended up finding a suitable singer in the most unexpected country of them all.

“The Horde is pleased to announce our newest member, Heike Langhans — all the way from South Africa. She has since relocated to Sweden in order to join the band and has fit it superbly. She’s a true doomster at heart and brings an even greater emotional flair to our sound. Our journey thus continues and writing for the new album has already begun.

“As fall approaches, we ready ourselves for some serious rehearsal, recording and tour planning. We look forward to seeing you all out there again!”

Added Langhans: “I will start off by saying that Lisa will be dearly missed. Replacing a voice such as hers is a concept foreign to most fans, myself included. I’ve listened to DRACONIAN for many years and share the same sentiments as you do. She will never be forgotten and we wish her well for the future.

“That being said, this is a new era for DRACONIAN and one to look forward to.

“My joining has not been an easy process. Dealing with embassies, migration boards and countless authority figures has delayed the joining process slightly, but we do what we can and remain patient. All in the name of doom.

“The last few months have been busy indeed. Traveling back and forth, rehearsing and getting to know my new surroundings has been exciting and hard work. I used to believe it can’t be done, but I’ve proved to myself and others that everything we are passionate about in life is worth fighting for.

“As a new member, I have prepared myself for the positive as well as the negative, but would like to thank all the kindness I’ve received so far from fans upon the release of DRACONIAN’s LAKE OF TEARS tribute song, ‘Demon You/Lilly Anne’. Though my part in it was not big, it’s a little taste of things to come. I’m immensely excited to share a stage with these like-minded individuals and to touch the hearts of people all over the world with our musical poetry.”

DRACONIAN’s latest album, “A Rose For The Apocalypse”, was released in June 2011 via Napalm Records. The cover artwork was created by Seth Siron Anton (PARADISE LOST, KAMELOT, ROTTING CHRIST, MOONSPELL).
