Edmonton, Alberta Black/Death Metallers DIRE OMEN have teamed with BraveWords.com for an exclusive stream of new song “Onward with Wounds of Disillusion.” The track comes from Dark Descent Records release Wresting the Revelation of Futility, which will be available for mass consumption on November 12. Listen to the song right friggin’ here.
Characterized by a progression towards the chaotic, opaque darkness that now permeates their sound, the history of the Canadian Black/Death Metallers has led to the establishment of an undeniable identity, most evident on this debut album. Utilizing abyssal, morose imagery combined with a strong sense of Thelemic ritualism, DIRE OMEN has developed a unique take on the Black/Death genre.
The album will come housed in an upgraded stock digi-jacket with a poster fold out that includes lyrics. Let’s all revel in it. Get in touch at firstname.lastname@example.org to experience the macabre madness.

In other news, THE CROWN has parted ways with drummer Janne Saarenpää.
Says the band: “Janne Saarenpää decided to focus on other things for a time not specified. We truly respect his wishes and support him on his new adventures. Although there will always be an open spot for him in this band, so if he decides to come back he is more than welcome. So we wish him good luck for the future and would like to thank him for everything in the past. Our live situation will therefore look a bit different, but we have that covered already. More info on that when time comes.”
THE CROWN last year announced the addition of guitarist Robin Sörqvist (IMPIOUS) to the group’s ranks.
THE CROWN played its first concert with returning vocalist Johan Lindstrand on May 5, 2012 at Sticky Fingers in Gothenburg, Sweden. This marked the band’s first appearance in Gothenburg in 12 years and was the group’s only show in Sweden that year.

Jesus look alike and drumming mastermind, Samus, of the Santa Cruz death metal band DECREPIT BIRTH, has just released his latest video as a cover of NECROPHAGIST‘s “The Stillborn One”. Samus is coming off his recent comical hit “Fart Metal” which is exactly what you think it is – kick ass heavy metal filled with tons of farts. Samus plays homage to himself in his one-man NECROPHAGIST cover by inserting a few well placed farts into the song to keep things spicy.
DECREPIT BIRTH has been working on new material which will be the follow up to their brutal 2010 release, Polarity. When asked about the status of the new album, Samus comments “It’s coming. I promise”.
With the release of An Unending Pathway, the haunting new long player from Pacific Northwest atmospheric death/doom alchemists, ATRIARCH, now less than a week away, today Pitchfork is streaming the record in its entirety.
Tracked at Type Foundry in Portland, Oregon, produced by Billy Anderson (Sleep, Eyehategod, Melvins et al) and the band, engineered and mixed by Anderson at Everything Hz, also in Portland, and mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, Beastmilk, Nails) at Audiosiege, An Unending Pathwayboasts seven cataclysmic soundscapes made of cryptic atmospheres and droning floods of ritualistic sludge. Offering true purification through sonic ritual, ATRIARCH‘s third full-length fuses all the prime tenets of death rock, doom, black metal, post punk and psychedelic drone/noise, into something that is at once tempting and petrifying.
Cvlt Nation applauds the outfit’s, “arresting and welcome combination of doom metal, death rock, black metal, and Mid Eastern-influenced darkwave sound,” Noisey notes, “There’s a lurching, ritualistic feel to the proceedings, and a dire hopelessness in the vocals that doesn’t let up for a moment. It’s death rock that ODs on death… The end result is as dark and eerily atmospheric as an abandoned graveyard at midnight,” while Sea Of Tranquility commends, “An Unending Pathway is so out there at times that it’s almost puzzling. For some, this melting pot of sounds, mixed with the frightening tone of much of the album, is going to be very unsettling….” Elsewhere the sentiment echoes. In a 4/5 rating, Metal Riot elaborates, “‘Collapse’ breathes with terrific shifting drums Moonspell or The Cult fans could appreciate equally. There is a deranged charm to the vocal and unity in this song that owns the feeling coveted. Marching drums ring in ‘Revenant,’ a more interesting song that bridges military black metal and noise rock influences with some tortured screams before drooping into a death shuffle. The patience of the slow bass line and sustained notes paired with sudden bursts of black metal drumming is worth the whole record alone.” AddsMetal Storm in an 8.5/10 score, “If the third album of a band’s discography is typically held as the ‘make it or break it.’ point, these guys not only break through the wall, they pummel it into dust.”

Massachusetts Thrashers Lich King are set to release a new EP entitled ‘Do-Over’ which comprises 5 re-recorded songs from the ‘Necomantic Maelstrom’ and ‘Toxic Zombie Onslaught’ albums. ‘Do-Over’ also features a cover version of Van Halen’s track ‘Hot For Teacher’ and a demo version of ‘Crossover Songs Are Too Damn Short’ which will appear on the band’s 5th full length album scheduled for a mid 2015 release. The EP will be released worldwide on 25th December 2014 via Evil EyE Records. We would like to give your publication the opportunity to preview & review the EP.
Lich King are architects of new ‘old-school’ thrash metal in the vein of EXODUS, VIO-LENCE, S.O.D and SLAYER amongst others. Drummer Brian Westbrook describes the bands unique proposition as follows: “We think the sound of thrash was perfected in the 80’s and we’re not trying to add anything to the mix. We’re just coming up with riffs and songs that the old masters didn’t.”
Lich King‘s frontman Tom Martin made the following educated statement regarding the new deal between Lich King and Evil EyE Records.
“So apparently we’re “signed” to some no-name label now.
Brian did it under my nose, despite my protestations. That’s just great.
We couldn’t be happier to be contractually shackled to Eviley or whatever for the forseeable future. Having some scheister on another continent in control of our future sounds like such a great way to lose a lot of money, and we’re really excited to begin the ‘but things wouldn’t always be so good’ part of our VH1 Behind The Music episode.
What the hell.”
The ‘Do-Over’ EP was produced and mixed by Lich King‘s drummer Brian Westbrook (PDP Recording: http://pdprecording.com), while the EP’s artwork was designed by Lich King‘s vocalist Tom Martin (Tom Martin Art & Design: http://www.undeadwizard.com/).
